In the first Seahawks game since San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick sat during the national anthem last Friday, one Seattle player followed suit Thursday cornerback Jeremy Lane.
Lane sat throughout the anthem before Seattles final preseason game Thursday at Oakland.
It was not immediately clear if Lane was showing solidarity with Kaepernick or had other reasons. The team had no immediate comment.
Teammates did not appear to react in any way to Lane, other than Richard Sherman, who sat next to Lane and chatted with him briefly after the anthem ended. Lane then got up and played at cornerback during the first series of the game.
Lane is a fifth-year veteran from Northwestern (La.) State who was drafted by Seattle in the fifth round in 2012. He signed a new four-year deal worth $23 million in March after having been an unrestricted free agent. He is competing for the starting job as the starting right cornerback but also serves as the teams primary nickelback.
Lane is from Tyler, Texas.
No other players on either side appeared to sit.
The anthem was performed by Mike Phillips, a saxophonist who has performed with Prince, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson.
Lanes action did not appear to draw much of a reaction from spectators, though given the location of the bench many may not have noticed. Lane was the last Seahawk to take the field for the second half, doing so after play had resumed (starters had already been removed) and jogged lightly in front of the end zone crowd to get back to the Seattle bench. But there didnt appear to be any visible reaction from those in attendance.

Well give some ghetto thugs way more money than they deserve, and this is the crap that comes of it!!
This is really not about football, or even about these two idiots. It’s about how nations die. We saw much the same in Yugoslavia. Tribe above country.
Agree. The fans of America need to do the right thing. Hit them in the pocketbook, and boo them off the bench.
He is an a hole just like the other ungrateful cretin is.
Another marginal player with an unearned big bucks contract. It looks like a set up to me for negotiating contracts. These Jagovs have no history of activism.
I,am hoping for a few career ending injuries.
They can rot.
NFL has all kind of ‘off the field’ requirements for players (no drugs, no crimes, etc.).
Just put it in the damn contracts, “Must stand for National Anthem.”
It’ll spread though unless the lead mans up and starts fining and suspending players.
I’d also like to see some ‘back the blue’ stickers appear on helmets. Challenge the league to fine you since they told Dallas ‘no’ already.
Would they dare fine ‘back the blue’ while letting other players sit during the Anthem?
Be a terrible PR move.
This will also be an issue with college players as well. The BLM campus groups realize thanks to Missouri that they need to guilt trip the black players to ‘don’t be no Uncle Toms’ and ‘stick it up the man’ by protesting.
The NFL is crap.
He is probably on the cutting block anyway.
At least these enemy A-holes don’t have any problem outing themselves.
MANAGEMENT should nip this in the bud right now. No respect or manners, go sit in the locker room. Huge fine for sitting in the locker room. Hit them ALL in the pocket book. These fools are ruining the brand... Don’t spend a nickel on their souvineers, jerseys, or anything that brings them revenue.
Or let them sit in the locker room for the game.
Suspend them a couple of games and cut their pay, too.
See what happens then.
At this rate no one will watch any NFL games.

“TRIBE ABOVE COUNTRY”.
Great post. So true.......
Bite me Jeremy.
I’ll tell you when this will end. It will end when Obama is no longer President, and Donald Trump is.
