The number of stores feeling the effects of a bad gas recall has tripled in the last day.
The Oklahoma Corporation Commission now says 107 gas stations and distributors have so far been identified as possibly receiving high ethanol gas. Nearly 450,000 gallons of fuel from Magellan Midstream Partners may have as much as 30-percent ethanol. The fuel was distributed between Aug. 23 and Aug. 29 to dozens of stations across the state.
FOX 25 checked in with several stores affected by the recall, all of which said their fuel had been recycled out either Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.
Now the process is underway to find who got the fuel and figure out what happens next for consumers who may have it in their tanks.
Gas with 30 percent ethanol can be corrosive and ruin small engines like motorcycles and lawnmowers, Oklahoma Corporation Commission spokesman Matt Skinner said.
Tony Gaglio, service manager at Christian Brothers Automotive Warwick, says he's already had customers come in worried about the faulty fuel.
He says people need to watch out for rough starts, rough idling noises and check engine lights.
"If your car isn't enjoying the drive, your'e going to see some lights on the dash," he said. "Your vehicle isn't going to run properly, it's not going to fire the cylinders properly."
According to Gaglio, it's costly for a mechanic to drain a fuel tank and get rid of 10-15 gallons of fuel. He says it can cost $400 to $600.

Reading this makes me happy I drive diesel!
Nah just find a swamp and dump it in - preferable one with snail darters, arroyo toads, and spotted owls.
Oh great. Another thing to worry about.
Thanks. I have some of that. Can you trust it to leave gasoline (with the additive) in your tank over winter?
Yes. Its the only one I trust. Have had very good luck with it and their “Mechanic in a Bottle” also.
I saved a year old Honeywell generator with stale fuel after I used Stabil. (crap)
The MIB cleaned it right out after letting it “soak” overnight.
All gas now mixed with Ethanol Shield. get it at Home Defect.
“This stuff tastes funny.”
More like trying to stretch your hamburger with cement...
I really do thank you for that info.
I may have missed it or perhaps it was in the original news (this is an updated story and expanded station list) but I’m not sure which grades or blends were contaminated. I know from living near some of the stations on the list that they carry EtOH as well as 100% real gas.
You’re lucky. Here in Florida finding ethanol free gasoline is a non-trivial matter.
Ditto!
Not sure if the info this link is good or not, but I just found it on a Bing search.
I hope it helps.
“According to Gaglio, it’s costly for a mechanic to drain a fuel tank and get rid of 10-15 gallons of fuel. He says it can cost $400 to $600.”
Back in the old day’s we’d siphon it out and dump it on the railroad tracks.
Thank you. The home depot by me has it. I’ll get it. My car has been running like $#1t lately.
This was probably an EPA “test”.
“What I do know is you better not let stale 10% ethanol gas stay in your lawnmower tank over winter or you will have to get the carburetor cleaned out in the spring. One of my lessons learned the hard way.”
If you leave it in long enough, it just runs out of the bottom of the fuel bowl through the rust hole. Great stuff.
Run your tank down to a few gallons in the car and dump a couple of bottles of MIB in and run it to “empty”.
I’ve done that a couple of times too over the years.
I would not recommend running a fuel injected car with an electric fuel pump to empty. The pump is submerged in fuel and it cools the pump.
I have seen a lot of pumps fail after being run dry.
Yes, that’s why I put “empty” in quotes.
I meant as low as possible.
MIB isn’t really made to be diluted in too much gas.
