Ozzy Osbourne is convinced Nazi leader Adolf Hitler was gay.

The rocker is a World War II expert and his research has led him to believe the infamous Austrian was hiding a sexual secret, which may have turned him mad.

"I was born in '48," Ozzy tells RollingStone.com. "As a kid in England, I used to play on bomb sites. The insanity of it all got me interested.

"If Hitler honestly thought he was going to rule the world with people following him, he must have been f**king insane. He tried to invade Russia... that's, like, four time zones (away). Even with three million men marching, it ain't gonna last."

But it's Hitler's sex secrets that most intrigue Ozzy: "I always thought he was gay," he chuckles. "Back then, being gay was a criminal offence. When he would go to (vacation spot) Berchtesgaden, his cleaners would check to see if there were any stains on his blankets. And there never were any."

Hitler was a failed artist. (Geez, sounds like half of our millennial generation, just saying...). Everybody knows artists aren’t famous for their staunch embrace of an empirical approach to life. Ozzy’s been hitting the sauce again.

So it seems that minority army of alternative lifestyles have won the war against the majority army of heterosexual normalcy.

I wouldn't exactly call this a ringing endorsement of homosexuality on Ozzy's part. Besides, history has shown a number of its monsters to have had sexual abberations.

There were many rumors about him being a gay boy from men that served with him in WWI....This has always been suspect....He may have been asexual....I have known a couple of men like that.

Actually that is not quite re-writing history. That was the rumor back before the war, during and after.

Interestingly, Ozbourne may not be completely wrong. Remember, one of Hitler's early friends in the Nazi Party before Hitler became Chancellor in 1933 was Ernst Roehm, the head of the Sturmabteilung (SA) or Storm Troopers part of the Nazi Party. Roehm was a notorious homosexual, and several senior officers in the SA were "partners" of Roehm. As such, Hitler's friendship with Roehm had possibly a more close relationship than people saw in public at the time.

This is possible. Hitler’s SA brownshirts was a homo organization. Hitler had every kind of sexual dysfunction known to man... why not homosexuality too?

I’d say the gays can have Hitler to claim as their own.

But Ozzy does a point: there has long been speculation that Hitler was gay. Clearly, the speculation was fueled in part by propaganda, however.

Nonetheless, there is considerable evidence that Hitler was either gay, asexual, or had bizarre sexual fetishes, not enough, however, to sway majority scholarly opinion.

It is known, however, that he intended the world to believe he was chaste, that he had a 14-year relationship with a woman (Eva Braun, of course). They slept in separate beds, but perhaps only for appearances. They did not have children.

Apparently, every significant historical figure was gay.

There are some historical figures that the gay community doesn't want identified with them. Hitler is one.

I'm not sure that I find their arguments compelling but there are researchers out there who believe that Hitler was primarily homosexual. There is no denying that many in the Nazi inner circles of leadership were gay. I think that it is safe to conclude that Hitler's sexual life was odd, whether it included homosexuality or not.

Ozzie might be burned-out druggie but I'm not sure that he's that far off base with this assertion.

Maybe he got Hitler confused with Ernst Rohm.
One of my best friends is a great nephew of Ernst Rohm - he doesn't bring it up very often.
