We turn our attention once again to the city of Chicago, where, as of this writing, 2,858 people have been shot and 487 have been killed so far this year (both numbers will surely be higher by the time you read this). The website HeyJackass.com tabulates these and other figures related to crime in Chicago, and it reports that on average someone is shot every two hours and murdered every twelve. But these averages are for the year overall; we are now in the prime shooting season of summer, and the averages for August approximate to someone being shot every ninety minutes and murdered every eight hours. August, says the Chicago Tribune, has been the most violent month in Chicago in 20 years.

The people in Chicago don’t care, either. It’s mostly just two predominantly black neighborhoods and they are only killing each other. I saw an interview with a black mother who had lost two sons to drive-by shootings inside of a year. She abhorred the violence but didn’t indicate she would move to protect her other kids. Nor did she ask where are the cops. She was just describing it like it was a natural phenomenon. Angry, yes, but not enough to do something, like leave.

And the Democrats plan to reduce all of the murders in Democrat controlled Big cities is micro-stamping bullets, which has been tried a number of times in attempting to pass such laws in anti-gun states.
The NRA has explained for many years how it is unworkable, but that makes no difference to the Dims.

CHICAGO — An Illinois State Representative from Chicago is addressing the violence epidemic in the city, in a different way.
Rep. Sonya Harper, D-Chicago, represents some of the most crime-ridden communities, including Englewood and the Back of the Yards neighborhood.
Harper introduced her plan Tuesday for a bill that would require ammunition makers to stamp serial numbers on every bullet sold in Illinois.
Harper says shootings would go down, because it would be easier to track providers of illegally acquired ammunition.

CHICAGO (WLS) —
An Illinois state lawmaker plans to propose a bill that would require serial numbers be stamped on all ammunition sold in Illinois.
State Rep. Sonya Harper, D-Chicago, believes that serial numbers would help track bullets and help police identify those who are illegally distributing ammunition.
“We’re not trying to get rid of responsible gun owners guns, we just want to know how the guns and the bullets are getting into the hands of our youth and causing senseless harm and murder,” Harper said.
Harper was joined on Tuesday by several state lawmakers, Chicago aldermen and others in support of the proposal.
Harper said she hopes to file the bill later this week.

1. Detroit: Murder rate: 44/100,000 people.Chicago's murder rate is about 18 per 100,000. Less than 1/2 that of many of the cities on this list, like Detroit, Stockton , Baltimore and St. Louis.
