"Cajun Navy' Rescuers Eyed by Louisiana State Legislator for Regulation

Amid the historic flooding many of the rescues in Acadiana, and across the state, are being credited to civilians.

They call themselves the "Cajun Navy."

The group started during Hurricane Katrina, when hundreds from Acadiana went to New Orleans with their boats to make rescues.

"Between us all, we took out quite a bit of people," said Doug Bienvenue, a member of the group.

Now the "Cajun Navy" is back, but the fleet is facing a few challenges.

Bienvenue is an original member of the fleet, so when GoFundMe accounts and t-shirt sales started popping up throughout flood relief under the "Cajun Navy" name, it didn't sit well with him.

"Cajun Navy does not sell anything like t-shirts," said Bienvenue. "We go out to help people, non-profit, from our hearts."

A Texas man tried to copyright the "Cajun Navy" brand, but couldn't. He said he had good intentions.

"Hoping to have a situation where I can help some of the flood victims," said the Texas man. "I have an employee who lives there in Greenwell Springs who lost everything."

And Louisiana State Senator Jonathan Perry is worried groups, like this one, need regulation and training.

"It's going to take some work, but it's very doable to eliminate the liability from the state and also put a cost," said Perry in an interview with KPEL Radio. "Even if it's at $25 or $50 training seminar where the person has some type of identification."

But Bievenue said what the group does has nothing to do with money or liability, it's simply saving lives.

"Nonprofit. That's what it's all about. It's about saving lives," said Bienvenue. "That's what it's about. We're not worried about what we have to go through, or how many hours we have to work."

Once again, a State lege can't keep their fingers off people doing good things for people, without the government getting involved.

As for the T-shirts, yes, there is a syndicated radio program selling them, to give the money to the folks of South Louisiana. If you wish to go look, the program is “The Walton and Johnson Show”. They can be found on the web.

There is no activity so small that cannot be regulated by the elected tyrants.

That the elected are tyrants speaks to the debasement and stupidity of the voters.

SOME writers have so confounded society with government, as to leave little or no distinction between them; whereas they are not only different, but have different origins. Society is produced by our wants, and government by our wickedness; the former promotes our happiness POSITIVELY by uniting our affections, the latter NEGATIVELY by restraining our vices. The one encourages intercourse, the other creates distinctions. The first is a patron, the last a punisher.

Society in every state is a blessing, but Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil . . . - Thomas Paine, Common Sense (1776)

If it’s effective, regulate it...

Once again, a State lege can't keep their fingers off people doing good things for people, without the government getting involved.

Which is why Thomas Jefferson proposed

Periodic revolution, “at least once every 20 years,” was “a medicine necessary for the sound health of government.”

One of the Fox blonde bimbos called them the Cajun Army this morning. News media is a joke.

That legislator should now be on multiple high-profile lists for removal from office via election at the first opportune moment. If I were in LA in his district, I’d file for election and use that statement as the primary theme of my campaign.

The VERY FIRST state training session will be on diversity.

“Question: If two people are floundering in flood waters...one is white, the other is black...which one do you rescue first?
- 1) The black person
- 2) The racist white-privileged, cracker, honky piece of crap.”

F-n politician!

I bet that SOB probably doesn't know which end of an outboard motor goes in the water. When he is done trying to "help" it will be ILLEAGLE to use your own boat to save your own family!

There isn’t a single good idea or program extant that hasn’t been ruined or otherwise marred by the heavy-handed touch of government.

Bureaucrts, by their very nature, have a compulsion to f*** up themselves and others.

Take him out in the swamp and drop him off, and let the cajun gators deal with him.
