ENTIRE TITLE: "Is this what Trump's new borders could look like? New Mexico town is having a chain-liked fence used to keep illegal immigrants out replaced with an 18ft high STEEL WALL"

A New Mexico town is having an 18ft steel wall being built across the border to replace a dilapidated chain-link fence.

The new barrier is being put up in Sunland Park along a section of one of the most unprotected parts of the Mexican-American border. Only 10ft high fencing dotted with holes has separated the town from dangerous neighborhoods just a few miles away since the 1980s.

Since then, there has been a constant flow of immigrants border agents have struggled to control. The $11million wall will also have 5ft of reinforced steel dug underground - in a bid to stop tunneling.

But the imposing structure is also a glimpse into what Donald Trump may be looking to put up if he is elected in November. Construction has been going on in the area since 2008. It is expected to finish early next year, according to the Albuquerque Journal.

Fernando Garcia, executive director of the nonprofit advocacy group Border Network for Human Rights, told the Journal: 'In our opinion, the fencing has not necessarily been a good deterrence for immigration.

'But it does represent a symbolic response, a very aggressive response, to immigrants and the border community.'

Across the border lies Anapra, a violent suburb of Ciudad Juarez. While officials say crossings into Sunland Park have decreased while the fence project is under way, they still occur frequently. This stretch of border has been the site of the Mass celebrating Mexico’s Day of the Dead for the last 17 years.

Great find. I did not read nor did i hear of this.

It is more of a statement, like the gentleman says, because they can pour in around it.

But maybe, just maybe, those illegals that would have entered there and dont now might have gone on to kill someone in NM.

Good for NM!!

Border fence viewed with apprehension

Local article from the Albuquerque Journal

Notice the title already informs you that you must feel sad about the wall ..."apprehension"

Ah, the DDR. Glad it’s gone.

Difference is, the DDR built their fence to keep people in.

The new rust-colored steel columns – an $11 million project authorized by the Secure Fence Act of 2006

It took 10 years.

I am painfully aware of that. I spent a couple of days in the DDR in ‘81. Being there made you feel like your were holding your breath. There was a pervasive atmosphere or fear and despair there. upon re-entering West Germany all the people in my party visibly relaxed.

Walls can be used both ways, depending on which way the guards are facing. The difference is who (now and in the future) will be in charge of the wall.

There’s a really expensive and not very good museum in DC dedicated to “journalists.” It’s called the newseum and is a huge pat on the back self-admiration society to all those heroic journalists.

But, that aside, by far the best display they have is a 40’long section of the Berlin Wall.

Looking at it, one can easily distinguish the difference between a totalitarian and a democratic society. On the West side, the wall is 100% covered with layers of graffiti. The East side is pristine concrete.

I told my kids that’s all you need to know about communism. Approach the wall with a Sharpie and die.

Your suggestion would certainly reduce repeat offenders. I suspect it would not get approved though.

They can only be used “the other way” if the American people are disarmed first.

Ain’t gonna happen.

Nobody is going to work as a border guard keeping Americans “in” because they will be plinking targets to out past 1,000 yards. And all the way up the chain of command to the POTUS and every .gov stooge in between.

Everybody knows that Switzerland has not been invaded in many centuries. It also has not had a tyrant. No job security in being a tyrant or a tyrant’s stooge in a country with uncountable numbers of scoped deer rifles that can blow holes in 200# mammals out past 500 yards.
