I would have thought Switzerland, non-member of the EU, exerted tight control over its borders . . .

I would have thought Switzerland, non-member of the EU, exerted tight control over its borders . . . Switzerland is kind of an "associate" member of the EU and,as such, they have the same "open border" policy as most of the EU's "official" members.

I would have thought Switzerland, non-member of the EU, exerted tight control over its borders . . . Same here. Perhaps there was a Swiss policy that allows passage to people coming from Italy and going on to Germany. I'm sure that will change.

Switzerland is NOT a member of the EU, but they ARE a member of the Schengen arrangement nations.
Hence fairly free border policies. No Visas.
Now Germany must worry about the other Schengen countries on ALL of her other borders, e.g. France, Nederland, Denmark, Poland, Czech Republic, Austria.

I'm shocked. I guess Sigmar Gabriel giving the middle finger salute to protesters, who of course the Guardian labeled as neo-Nazi protesters, was the final insult. The German people are now mad as hell, and they aren't going to take it anymore. I guess Merkel knows when she is supporting a losing cost, even if it took way too long to catch on.
Now with Germany doing this the rest of the EU will follow suit since the money bags of the EU has changed their tune. With England already on their way out this most likely will spell doom for the nasty EU.
