Ted Cruz's image among Republicans had plummeted to a personal low by the Indiana primary the defeat that forced him from the GOP presidential contest.
But he may wish for those heady days of May now...
Potential GOP rivals are probing for weakness ahead of Cruz's bid for a second term in 2018. That includes House Homeland Security Chairman Michael McCaul of Austin. The former federal prosecutor is the second wealthiest member of the U.S. House, with access to a family fortune topping $100 million, though he has no obvious base of support to overcome the tea partyers still plenty in thrall of Cruz.
Dryly assessing Cruz's tenure in the Senate, McCaul said Wednesday that he'd "spent a lot of time running for president..."
For 14 months, Cruz spent precious little time in Texas as he stoked the flames of his White House ambitions.

Amen Christian sister!!
Rick Perry is interested in the position and I would go for him.
**************
Where are you getting that info? Perry will be 68 years old come the 6018 election and
I’d think he’d prefer something other than a job in DC. Maybe not but I was wondering if
he is making statements of a potential run.
Thanks for any info.
Mark who?
And you keep your life and marrige together without Jesus. Good for you.
Care to explain ?
Mr. Trump is mending the rift with Sen. Cruz with his “regrets” comments a few days ago. Good to see.
Cruz is the most unethical POS wearing the "R" badge.
He could have made this a "golden ticket" but blew it in such an unprofessional manner I can't see him redeeming himself politically at that level.
That being said, I believe there is much good he can continue to do in Texas and I recommend that he focuses his efforts at redemption there. He is done at a national level. Sad truth, but he brought this on himself, completely unnecessarily.
I think George Will did a number on the word conservative this year.
I honestly am not thrilled with being connected to republican or conservative.
Someone suggested an America Party. I like that.
The RINOs were always against him.
Yeah, right. Until they found out he WAS ONE OF THEM. By then, he’d sullied his name with EVERY Republican...except Mike Cruzlee. Oh, and I hear ILLary likes using his ‘vote your conscience’ line.
What a loser putz he turned out to be :(
I don’t see him having any redemption, even in Texas.
I plan to work as hard at getting him OUT of office, as I did getting him in.
Brasil, Mexico, Venezuela and Canada are all "Americas".
There are already 52 or so "third parties". Take your pick.
I'm sorry to say this because he was right on so many issues, but it is what it is.
Rick Perry is interested in the position and I would go for him.”
So you prefer to go back to the time when we had two GOP-e senators like Cornyn and Hutchinson? Perry is for open borders and expansion of big business/Chamber of Commerce cheap labor. IMO he should run against Cornyn and at least get rid of our other career Senator.
Please Cruz wanting to REFOOL the Base not retool.
Cruz outed himself as a FatCat DC Insider Lawyer with a Goldman Sachs TPP creator treasoonous wife .
End of story .
He is finished hopefully for ever.
Boot to the curb!
The Texans I know tend to dislike politicians failing to disclose dual citizenship when running for the US Senate.
Ted will never be elected to anything from the State of Texas ever again, you heard it here first. The best thing he could do would be to just go home to Canada and not come back.
“Wish I could vote in Texas”
The courts say you can. Just register to vote. They can’t ask you for proof of residency. IF illegal aliens can vote and democrats can vote multiple times, so can you.
“Mark Levin just loves Cruz. Marks hatred of Trump and anyone who supports him is hard to hear. I just dont listen to him anymore.”
Mark “The Weasel” Levin has changed his tune about that just a bit: See, he isn’t saying NOT to vote for Trump, he just says we need to keep asking Trump the hard questions.
Total weasel.
