I have NO respect for any aspect of our current fed govrn.
The bottom line is that the freight railroads don't want the passenger trains. They accepted a weak Amtrak as a halfway to abolishing them altogether. They want to haul bulk goods and containers at a reasonable speed. They don't want to deal with passenger trains and the higher speeds they require. Most of all, they don't want to deal with the liability insurance issue.
Congress would have to let third parties, like the new Iowa Pacific Holdings passenger train company that runs the Amtrak Chicago-Indianapolis train, pick things up if Amtrak is abolished. The Class I railroads are adamant that they don't want third parties other than Amtrak to operate on their tracks because it's the thin end of the edge toward Open Access.
Open Access would allow any railroad to operate trains on the tracks of any other railroad. Congress could mandate this by law. Union Pacific has said that if this happens, they would prefer the government to pay them $4 trillion for their network and then get out of the railroad business entirely. Union Pacific would open up a chain of stores and compete with WalMart.
This is an intractable problem at present. However, the Florida East Coast Railroad is going to establish passenger service between Miami and Orlando on its own nickel, and if that works, it could turn the whole debate upside down.

No, it’s across the board on Rotton Tomatoes, meaning both the critics and movie goers like it. The few positives talk about Morgan Freeman saving the movie.
First off the original was a story. The original was 4 hours long. It had the most beautiful original movie score by I think Dimitri Tompkin.
This tripe is barely two hours, which means the story will get truncated to accommodate the galley scene and the chariot race. The love story is out, the relationship with the adopted father is out, the long arduous march is out and his face to face with Christ.
I’m still going, but my heart is not in it.
