First Read: What Happens to the Clinton Foundation if Hillary Wins?

With the Clinton Foundation once again the recipient of negative headlines, former Rep. Chris Shays (R-CT) -- another Republican who says he's backing Hillary Clinton -- recommended that the Clinton family should shut down the foundation if she becomes president. "I would sure as heck suggest that they don't have it," Shays said on "MTP Daily" yesterday. Maybe the Clinton Foundation doesn't have to close its doors if Hillary wins in November, but it will be unsustainable -- for the Clintons and for the foundation -- if it's viewed as a conflict of interest. As former GOP Sen. Dick Lugar (R-IN) noted in 2009 during Hillary Clinton's confirmation hearing to become secretary of state, "The core of the problem is that foreign governments and entities may perceive the Clinton Foundation as a means to gain favor with the secretary of state. Although neither Senator Clinton nor President Clinton has a personal financial stake in the foundation, obviously its work benefits their legacy and their public service priorities." And as we found out, any safeguards that the Clintons and Foundation established to eliminate perceptions problems while Hillary was secretary of state didn't exactly do the trick.

Not to worry about that...there are those who know exactly how to unravel those tentacles....and he's leading the charge!

We already know the FBI has multiple investigations on the books involving the Clinton Foundation........but the one one in New York City, where the charity is based, is reportedly 'headed by U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara', a prosecutor who made a name for himself in the midst of the the financial crisis by acting on fraud and public corruption cases.

He's taken down Bernie Madoff associates, state senators and a New York Assembly speaker and forced big banks to pay large fines..

The problem will be that International Entities are involved and that opens up a can of worms for their laws etc. are very different than ours....not to mention this would reveal their own corruption....

Don't be so sure.....these are the globalists giants vs. the nationalist giants.....some with political power, others with vast revenues, and some with both.....we are only seeing a very small portion of their game and most of that's theorists sticking their heads in to muddy the waters in order to sell their wares for public consumption.

Unfortunately those people make it very difficult to get the truth out......too many players looking for a pay off, pay out or just business to sell their junk.

Phone numbers don't mean squat....but it would be fun to send those numbers to all the robo callers out there!

Part of this is hype to keep the Demorats and Hillary crony's on their toes....this is why so often you hear Hillary just ignore or drive by all these accusations......it is only when they see they are loosing their base voters that they will address the stuff....and it's always with the idea of distracting from the real issue they're asked about. But they really haven't a clue what's coming...so they march along as if it's not a problem....and that's because peoples lives are on the line....in one form or another...high stakes games...leave no stone unturned.

Wasn’t that name discussed for a possible cabinet post some time ago - 2009 or 2013?? I don’t remember details but everything about him was positive - a straight shooter..possibly AG? Wish I could recall.

You said the FBI has multiple investigations going involving the foundations but from the news this week it doesn’t appear that they will ever see the light of day..Not with this DOJ running the show.

But what you say here is exactly the problem with all this. Keeping them “on their toes” is a meaningless exercise that accomplishes nothing. They may not have a clue what’s coming...but it’s always “coming” and never arrives. Which leads me to believe there’s nothing there that is truly the “atomic bomb” that is the definitive item that proves they knew they selling out the country...the thing that turns their base away from them. It’s never there...hasn’t been there in 25 years...they don’t even have to come out and explain anything, they don’t even have to talk about the things they’ve done. And since it never happens, I’m left with the belief that we are chasing the Holy Grail that we will never find.

I would go a different route if Hillary loses. Trump should levy a “fee” on all foundations run by former or current government employees with more than 1 million in foreign donations.

Say a 90% fee. Oh the irony.

Congress could re-institute the Independent Counsel apparatus. Yes, I know both parties grew tired of it. Rs hated Iran-Contra and Dems hated Starr, so they let it lapse. I do believe it could pass with a veto proof majority.

Back in June, Bill Clinton acknowledged that changes will have to come to the foundation if Hillary wins. "You have to be careful to avoid actual and potential conflicts of interest," he said at a Clinton Global Initiative event in Atlanta, per the Wall Street Journal. "We'll think very clearly about it and we'll do the right thing and explain it to the American people." What those changes will be will be big news for all of us to scrutinize.
