Not in My Name, NeverTrumpers
American Thinker ^ | August 10, 2016 | Robert Oscar Lopez

Posted on 08/10/2016 12:09:16 PM PDT by Kaslin

Many of my close friends in the conservative movement are NeverTrumpers. As a result, I find myself in an awkward position. The NeverTrumpers are appealing to their conservative friends based on emotional claims that I recognize as false, deluded, and selfish. One friend said, "Who wins the election does not matter as much as the need to vote one's conscience." This statement is stunningly prideful and childish. The voting booth is not a ride at Six Flags, and elections are not part of a consumer experiences. The White House is not Burger King, where you get things your way.

Of course who wins the election is more important than your precious conscience or how you feel about voting. Your country matters more than you do. Has America become so weak and self-absorbed that people no longer understand what it means to say, "It's not all about you, honey"?

I guess that's why I could never be a libertarian.

Part of the impasse between me and NeverTrumper friends is that they have never actually sat down and listened to the full horrors that I endured firsthand, which make it undeniable to me that this election is about stopping Hillary Clinton and saving America. Some games are won by offense, and others are won by defense; elections follow that pattern. We have to vote against things sometimes.

There might be an honest nevertrumper out there somewhere, but most are just concerned with keeping their beds feathered

I find this statement nonsensical, and indicative of the Trump cult's lack of critical thinking skills.

I can't think of anything else more "about you" than your vote. It's a completely individual decision that is only made by individuals. To suggest that one violate their conscience to be patriotic is oxymoronic.

Mr. Lopez needs a civics AND philosophy refresher.

The Republican Party gave us the least electable, least conservative candidate to run against an extremely weak and beatable Hillary Clinton. Now, Hillary Clinton will likely win by over 150 electoral votes, in what may be a Johnson/Goldwater blowout. That is the Republican Party and Trump voters' fault, not mine.

And just how are the Never-Trumpers’ consciences going to respond to the slide into mediocrity subsequent to the elevation of Herself to the Oval Office?

“We have met the enemy and he is us.” (Walt Kelly, speaking through the character Porky Pine in the comic strip, Pogo.)

I suppose that means that none of your friends are necessarily politically reliable.

Funny how fewer liberals are their own cause’s worst enemies, than conservatives.

This is not a hard decision.
There are things I like about Trump and there are things I dislike.
There is NOTHING I like about Hillary.
On that basis alone the decision is not very hard.
But the kick in the ass comes with the thought, Who do I want appointing Supreme Court Justices? Clinton or Trump.
That lands it squarely in the no brainer camp!
If Trumps turns out to be a disaster (which any President can). He gets voted out in 4 years. The Justices appoited by the next President could be on the Court for 5-10 - 15+ years.

The populace is wise to this with regard to Trump though.

They aren’t having any of it.

You acknowledge fallacy here? That there is a tar effect, not just a halo effect, possible? (E.g. Reagan could do no wrong, McCain could do no good)

I think Obama stands at the right hand of Satan, figuratively. He is championing his church (if you can call it one) here on this earth. Look what those people do. It is Satan’s handiwork.

All good comes from God. Only pure evil comes from Satan.

Churches are God’s home. They are not Satan’s home.

I do however expect that when/if Ted Cruz wins his primary, that the over the top anti-Ted freepers will honor the same deal.

...........................
Not gonna happen. I will never vote for that unqualified, lying sleazeball!

Black and white thinking did us pretty well up until the current crop of wimps took over. I agree with Doughty.

Those who claim to be conservative but will aid Hillary Clinton’s quest to become president by not supporting and voting for Trump are not conservatives.

Which of Trump’s major stated objectives as president are not on the wish lists of most real conservatives?

Reagan made mistakes, but he tried to do the right thing. His instincts were good. Sometimes his staff slipped one by him.

As for McCain, the man is evil. His character is so non-existent, that even when he tries to do good, he has no idea what good is.

He thought it was good to arm and fund the Muslim Brotherhood and al Qaeda. He saw value in that.

So McCain is evil by nature, and by his instincts. He is worthless and a danger to our nation.

Hey, I didn't throw this election away. If you and Mr. Lopez just wanted someone whose "only qualification is that he's not Hillary Clinton" (from the article), you had tons of options that wouldn't have turned the party into a bad joke.

Did you see Hillary is starting to campaign in Utah, and that Trump is behind in Georgia of all places?

Have fun with this one.

The Republican Party gave us sixteen politicians who do nothing, promise the moon, and line their own pockets. We chose the non politician who believes in America. Most Trumpers do NOT need civic nor any other lessons. WE UNDERSTAND what is and has been going on in this country for far too long and WE are determined to stop it. We chose a General cut from the same cloth as Patton. He IS a winner and doesn’t need anything but our support. Oh Ye of Little Faith need to come aboard before you miss the train.
