A teenage boy was arrested Sunday for assaulting a priest and a 69-year old woman who were praying outside a Ukiah church after finding satanic graffiti in the facility’s breezeway, Ukiah police said.
The 16-year-old boy, who yelled satanic slurs during the Sunday attacks, could face a hate crime charge, police said. He was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication, battery and elder abuse, police said. He was not identified because he is a juvenile.
According to police, the incident occurred about 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Saint Mary of the Angels Catholic Church on Oak Street. The priest told police he found satanic graffiti written in black marker after Mass. He walked to the prayer plaza behind the church where he met a woman. They were praying together when two boys arrived and began smoking marijuana, police said.
When the priest told them it was not allowed, the 16-year-old pushed the priest, then left with the other boy, according to the police report. But the suspect soon returned and confronted the priest, yelling satanic slurs and pushing him, police said. When the woman intervened, the boy struck her in the face, causing her to fall to the ground. As the priest assisted the woman, the boy struck him in the face, police said.
The boy fled but was located, intoxicated and hiding under a travel trailer on Alice Avenue, police said. Hate crime and vandalism charges are being forwarded to the district attorney’s office for consideration, police said.

“Hate crime and vandalism.” Two items that mask the real cause: supernatural disturbance. The youngsters need daily holy water, daily rosaries, weekly confession and monthly exorcisms. They should be cleaned up in a few months. Where did they get the disturbance? Who knows. Options: reading Cosmo magazine, watching Adams Family movies, listening to atheists, and defending gays. It all ads up to mayhem and hurting the innocent.
