Less than 100 days before the general election, Donald Trump has still not spent a dime on television advertising, even as Hillary Clinton floods the airwaves with tens of millions of dollars in ad spending.
According to an analysis by NBC News, the Democratic presidential nominee's campaign has spent $52 million on television ads, many of which have been concentrated in the battleground states that will be critical in determining the outcome of the election.
The Trump campaign, by comparison, has spent zero dollars. Even the two third-party presidential candidates, Green Party nominee Jill Stein and Libertarian Party nominee Gary Johnson, have outspent Trump, the GOP nominee. Steins campaign has spent $189,000, while Johnsons campaign has spent $15,000.
When outside groups are factored in, Clinton's advantage over Trump grows to $91 million to $8.2 million in TV ad spending.
The largest pro-Clinton super-PAC, Priorities USA, has spent $37 million.
Meanwhile, the largest pro-Trump super-PAC, Rebuilding America Now, has spent $5 million. The National Rifle Association has spent $3.2 million in TV advertising for Trump.
The Trump campaign did not respond to a request for comment
His campaign has released several ads but has only pushed them on social media so far.
It's not for lack of money the Trump campaign raised $80 million in July and finished the month with $37 million on hand.
A report in National Journal released Monday found that the campaign has requested ad rates in 17 states, taking the first step in what could be an expanded presence on the airwaves.
All true.
He’s spendin money on ground game right now. He’ll place ads in the fall when all the new season’s begin. And he’ll place them on the most popular shows with highest ratings. No one starts watching TV in earnest until vacations are over, the kids are back in school and reruns are done.
thanks
i hope that ‘ground game’ includes lots and lots of poll watchers and get-out-the-vote people
Trump can win some big states (including PA, MI, FL, and Californication) if he spends (expensive media, alas) and really campaigns for them, imho
There are millions and millions of D and I voters who are VERY, EXTREMELY dissatisfied with Hilliary getting the D nomination, Trump can get a lot of these voters if he really goes after them
Yes he is.
He addressed the question of ads very directly in a recent rally.
His observation; "It's too soon".
Trump alluded to that the other day saying they were going to be spending money soon and he hoped he didn’t make a mistake waiting to long.
He is letting Hillary defines him, that means he loses
On the other hand, Trump is keeping Hillary from running to the center, by forcing her to defend Muslims and attack the 2nd Amendment.
That must PO the media idiots.
Uh, what? That isn't true at all.
That’s the way to get around the MSM - that’s the very point! Instead he’s allowing Hillary to dominate and win the living room campaign...and the poll numbers reflect it.
Hillary can’t beat Trump - Trump can only beat himself. He’s doing a good job of it so far by allowing Hillary to have the only message. The low information voters watching Wheel of Fortune, Judge Judy, etc. aren’t going on his facebook page...and they are only hearing about how Hillary’s wonderful and Trump is awful...no competing message from Trump. He’s deliberately decided to give his opponent a huge advantage she shouldn’t have.
No, it will be about turnout and I am betting ours is going to be much better then the Democrats
