Less than 100 days before the general election, Donald Trump has still not spent a dime on television advertising, even as Hillary Clinton floods the airwaves with tens of millions of dollars in ad spending.
According to an analysis by NBC News, the Democratic presidential nominee's campaign has spent $52 million on television ads, many of which have been concentrated in the battleground states that will be critical in determining the outcome of the election.
The Trump campaign, by comparison, has spent zero dollars. Even the two third-party presidential candidates, Green Party nominee Jill Stein and Libertarian Party nominee Gary Johnson, have outspent Trump, the GOP nominee. Steins campaign has spent $189,000, while Johnsons campaign has spent $15,000.
When outside groups are factored in, Clinton's advantage over Trump grows to $91 million to $8.2 million in TV ad spending.
The largest pro-Clinton super-PAC, Priorities USA, has spent $37 million.
Meanwhile, the largest pro-Trump super-PAC, Rebuilding America Now, has spent $5 million. The National Rifle Association has spent $3.2 million in TV advertising for Trump.
The Trump campaign did not respond to a request for comment
His campaign has released several ads but has only pushed them on social media so far.
It's not for lack of money the Trump campaign raised $80 million in July and finished the month with $37 million on hand.
A report in National Journal released Monday found that the campaign has requested ad rates in 17 states, taking the first step in what could be an expanded presence on the airwaves.
No, the election is won in Oct not in Aug.
Most voters are paying attention right now.
Agreed, Trump needs to define her in ads and define himself - he needs to spend money and lots of it in the final 8 weeks.
Bush was dead when he raised taxes after saying ‘read my lips no new taxes’.
The media has been brutal 24/7 and is turning the malleable middle - ads would help.
Can there really be any “undecideds” at this point?
I mean these have to be the two most well known candidates in history.
Clinton is running ads 7/24 on all the cable stations.
I would burn out on 24/7 Trump let alone 24/7 sHillary..YIPES!
I can see WHY Trump does NOT want to give the MSM money why in the HELL would you give money to people who do NOTHING but TRASH YOU!!! Why in the world would you give them money to survive????
Necessary evil, they are the only game in town to reach the masses - he could go to the cable channels if he wanted to avoid the big 3, but he still needs to run ads.
You’re right and you’re making my point. And we keep hearing the same old narrative - Trump is tanking, polls have HRC pulling away, GOP flock from Trump in droves, he doesn’t know what the Triad is, he wants to use nuclear weapons, and on and on.
As I’ve been saying, stop yapping about things like Megan Kelly’s period and Ted Cruz’s Daddy and focus on Hillary. There is so much there to talk about.
Trump is a strategist.
Trump is very unconventional, a strategic planner, and hates wasting money.
If after 14 months, Trump’s image is not defined by now, it never will be. The Kahn dust-up is already in the rear view mirror.
I agree Trump is a blue collar billionaire, but $43 million is a lot to spend per month with absolutely no ads aired.
Exactly. This is one of the reasons the media hate Trump so much. The media gets HUGE infusions of cash during election seasons, and Trump ain't feeding them.
I think he has to start spending $$$ on both ads and ground forces ( poll watchers, get out the voters, etc). Either he wins or we all go down the Hilliary toilet. It doesn’t make sense to not market yourself if you want to win.
Lol, well played sir!
“As Ive been saying, stop yapping about things like Megan Kellys period and Ted Cruzs Daddy and focus on Hillary. There is so much there to talk about.”
You need to update what you have been saying. Trump never talked about Megyn Kelly’s period, the statement about Cruz’s dad was all in a day’s time frame, and I only knew what a Triad is because it was mentioned in a National Review article I read in college about thirty years ago.
However, he did create a ten billion dollar empire, so if I had a choice between a wonk who knew what a Triad is and someone who knew how to engineer a business of that size — it is no question. All those thirty years, the knowledge of what a nuclear triad is has been lurking in my mind, and it has never made me a penny, or enhanced my life, or anyone else’s.
