Less than 100 days before the general election, Donald Trump has still not spent a dime on television advertising, even as Hillary Clinton floods the airwaves with tens of millions of dollars in ad spending.
According to an analysis by NBC News, the Democratic presidential nominee's campaign has spent $52 million on television ads, many of which have been concentrated in the battleground states that will be critical in determining the outcome of the election.
The Trump campaign, by comparison, has spent zero dollars. Even the two third-party presidential candidates, Green Party nominee Jill Stein and Libertarian Party nominee Gary Johnson, have outspent Trump, the GOP nominee. Steins campaign has spent $189,000, while Johnsons campaign has spent $15,000.
When outside groups are factored in, Clinton's advantage over Trump grows to $91 million to $8.2 million in TV ad spending.
The largest pro-Clinton super-PAC, Priorities USA, has spent $37 million.
Meanwhile, the largest pro-Trump super-PAC, Rebuilding America Now, has spent $5 million. The National Rifle Association has spent $3.2 million in TV advertising for Trump.
The Trump campaign did not respond to a request for comment
His campaign has released several ads but has only pushed them on social media so far.
It's not for lack of money the Trump campaign raised $80 million in July and finished the month with $37 million on hand.
A report in National Journal released Monday found that the campaign has requested ad rates in 17 states, taking the first step in what could be an expanded presence on the airwaves.
Why fund the enemy?
Trump doing the rope a dope on PIAPS.
Wait until he lashes out. KO!
Because the lemmings will listen to whoever is doing the talking. He needs to be the one speaking.
“He needs to be the one speaking.”
Ironically, some argue that he needs to do the exact opposite.
It means that Clinton is defining Trump and the narrative. You can see it in his declining polls numbers.
Unless he does something to counter this immediately (or there is an event beyond anyone’s control), it will result is a very large loss in Nov. for Trump and the GOP generally - and no, destroying the GOP is not a good thing, unless you are a Democrat.
Trump could be putting together a big schlagen or hit that slams the Beast Hill hard within the last 45 days.
Great point. Trump has been getting plenty of coverage without spending ad money, which would not move the needle whatsoever and fund organizations looking to destroy him
Keep your powder dry, then execute an all out blitz at the right time. There is obviously an all out press by the msm, dnc and gope to discredit Trump and dishearten his supporters right now. But I suspect they are blowing their wad too early. Just stay the course, it’s worked so far.
Don’t worry about the networks. Mitt’s Mormon puppet should soon be spending $10s of millions.
All the coverage Trump has been getting is negative - a bad thing.
You don’t know that.
I hope he spends money soon.
Running a very smart campaign so far.
Blowing tens of millions on ads is not going to change that.
No such thing. All publicity good.
... the Trump campaign raised $80 million in July and finished the month with $37 million on hand ...
So the Trump rallies, travel, and personnel costs were $43 million in July? That’s an amazingly high burn rate.
I don’t watch TV news, except at the gym. There, I see CNN and MSNBC. Both networks are 100% in the tank for Clinton, and obsessed with destroying Trump. Fox is more mixed, but not in his corner. The same is true for CNN on the internet.
The coverage is unrelentingly negative, and is beginning to define
Trump for some voters who are undecided.
Once the image of Trump is defined, it will be very hard to undefined it.
Actually no - he’s getting his rear handed to him, and that had better change NOW.
Who watches TeeVee any more?
