~ Hall of Heroes ~ Henry Breault
Info from here. |
|
Henry Breault (October 14, 1900 December 5, 1941) was a United States Navy sailor who received the Medal of Honor for his actions while serving aboard the USS O-5 (SS-66) (US Submarine O-5). Henry Breault was born in Putnam, Connecticut, on October 14, 1900. He enlisted in the British Royal Navy at sixteen years of age and, after serving under the White Ensign for four years, joined the U.S. Navy. On October 28, 1923 Torpedoman Second Class Breault was a member of the crew of USS O-5 (SS-66) when that submarine was sunk in a collision in the Panama Canal. Though he could have escaped, Breault chose to assist a shipmate, and remained inside the sunken submarine until both were rescued more than a day later. For his "heroism and devotion to duty" on this occasion, Henry Breault was awarded the Medal of Honor. He received his Medal of Honor from President Calvin Coolidge, in ceremonies at the White House, Washington, D.C., on March 8, 1924. Following twenty years of U.S. Navy service, Henry Breault became ill with a heart condition. He died at the Naval Hospital at Newport, Rhode Island, on December 4, 1941. He was buried in Saint Mary Cemetery in Putnam, Connecticut. |
Rank and organization: Torpedoman Second Class, U.S. Navy. Born: October 14, 1900, Putnam, Conn. Accredited to: Vermont. G.O. No.: 125, February 20, 1924. Citation:
For heroism and devotion to duty while serving on board the U.S. submarine O-5 at the time of the sinking of that vessel. On the morning of 28 October 1923, the O-5 collided with the steamship Abangarez and sank in less than a minute. When the collision occurred, Breault was in the torpedo room. Upon reaching the hatch, he saw that the boat was rapidly sinking. Instead of jumping overboard to save his own life, he returned to the torpedo room to the rescue of a shipmate whom he knew was trapped in the boat, closing the torpedo room hatch on himself. Breault and Brown remained trapped in this compartment until rescued by the salvage party 31 hours later. (Medal presented by President Coolidge at the White House on 8 March 1924.)

Yeah, the manager’s already been warning me that later this month when a lot of people are on last minute vacations, I’ll be working more hours due to the fact that we’re shorthanded—especially for morning workers. GROAN! LOL!
I have to keep telling myself...only two more months...only two more months...
When I start getting cold feet about taking the plunge, I remember what Christmas is like and my courage level comes back up. LOL!

Ergh! Mornings! Not gonna be fun.
Yep. Just thinking about working retail during Christmas shopping season should be more than enough to keep your courage up. LOL! Take the plunge!

No rain today though we got a half inch yesterday. Still quite hot and muggy so the cats are still inside. I wish we didn’t have coyotes so we could let the cats out at night when it’s cool. But Hubby finally agreed it’s a no from here on out after losing several over the years.
It’ll start cooling off pretty soon, at least. We hope!
Any more rain up your way this weekend?

Nope...laptop won’t even come on. I am not happy. Sent an email to my computer guy.
If it is toast, I may abandon Dell. I need lots of RAM, but no so much HD. I do have my warranty in place for this one, but I worked really hard getting my stuff back on it.
Yes, relatively quiet weekend. I got some cleaning done, but today I’m not feeling so hot...catching cold. Fierce headache and lots of sneezing and breathing is becoming an issue. LOL! Early bed is in store.
How about you...rain??????

Yeah, the thought of getting up early 5 days a week makes my desire grow. Don’t know why I’m complaining though...there are so many people who work way more hours than I do and they are happy doing it. I’m just a spoiled brat. LOL
[Watch spel jump all over THAT one! :) ]

Well that stinks. At least it’s under warranty.
Is there a way to add more RAM or do you just need to get another desktop instead?
Bummer you’ve caught a clod. Summer colds are the worst. At least this week is the “off” week when things won’t be quite as insane at work but still .....
I’ll be heading to bed early tonight too. Gotta get up in the morning for headquarters duty.
Hoping for some rain showers this week but not holding our breath. We were lucky to get the half inch we got yesterday but that isn’t nearly enough.

The thought of waking up early one day a week hurts. Any time before noon is early. LOL! Tough being a night owl, isn’t it?
Yeah, spel is liable to be all over that one. You left yourself wide open. :-)

Off and on rain all weekend...I didn’t venture out at all.
And now I’m going to crash with some cold meds.
Sleep well when you get there.

A half inch is good considering the alternative.
Praying you get more this week.

I’m using a desktop for my main computer. It has been making strange noises for several months, but seems to keep going. I have all my stuff backed up on it.
I have a brand new desktop downstairs in anticipation that this one will croak any day.
I used to use the laptop when I travel (I will again some day) and for music. It’s annoying not having it right off to the right.

Glad y’all got some rain. You’re still in deficit up there, I’d guess.
Good night. Hope you’re able to get some good sleep.
