In the past five years ESPN has lost 11,346,000 subscribers according to Nielsen data.
If you combine that with ESPN2 and ESPNU subscriber losses this means that ESPN has lost over a billion dollars in cable and satellite revenue just in the past five years, an average of $200 million each year. That total of a billion dollars hits ESPN in the pocketbook not just on a yearly basis, but for every year going forward.
It's gone forever.
That's not just bad, this is downright cataclysmic.
And it's getting worse.
In the past year ESPN lost 4.159 million subscribers, that's another $350 million in lost revenue across the ESPN family of networks.

I'm not trying to be alarmist here, but the simple fact is this -- I don't see how ESPN's business model makes sense at all by 2021.
The "Worldwide Leader in Sports" is a dead channel walking.

And of course ESPN has a huge web presence so focusing on subscribers is missing a lot of the picture.
Dumping Rush Limbaugh was the beginning of the ESP-end.
I stopped watching espn when they took Thursday Night Thunder off the air.
I hope the liberal bastiges go broke and everyone that works there winds up living under a bridge.
Of course, the idiots are mixing sports and political correctness. They suck as does Disney.
Which is heartbreaking because I loved Gary Thorne's play-by-play and miss it terribly.
How Sensitive Is Disney’s Stock Price To Number Of ESPN U.S. Subscribers?

Why would anyone watch ESPN. Constant schooling on how these multi-million dollar athletes are being oppressed and misunderstood by the white privledged class. I mean on many occasions I thought I was watching either; CNN, MSNBC, or BET, do they even cover sports anymore. And why is an out and out racist like Steven Smith, who’s been suspended multiple times for saying the most outlandish things, still have a job.
Totally aggravated with the way they jump around every 5 minutes from sport to sport with no continuity.
MLB then NFL then NBA then NHL then back to MLB and repeat repeat repeat.
Hate NBA. NHL is of no interest except for Stanley Cup scores.
Now it's MLB and NFL networks. No SportsCenter!
If I have to watch a game on ESPN it is with the mute button on.
ESPN could shut down now and forever and I would be just fine.
I know of the local gatekeeper for the good video freelance gigs for that and other cable sports who is a complete jerkwad. He is despised by many including me.
He would easily fit in with ESPN corporate. It wouldn’t hurt me to see him take a hit in the wallet.
Walt Disney is spinning in his grave. He once objected to Annette Funicello wearing a bikini. Look at the filth the Disney company purveys now. Shame on you Disney.
Witness. Same here.
I will not watch ESPN. Screw those politically correct bastards.
Great news!
If people wanted "politics", they'd tune into one of the dozens of political outlets.
I just don't understand the CEOs of these companies.
If you're in the SPORTS business, promote sports.
If you're in the clothing business, promote CLOTHES, not transgender bathrooms.
If you own a computer company, promote computers, not homosexuality.
And spare me the wailing and gnashing of teeth over gays in the USA, when you happily sell products in China and the ME where they KILL and imprison gays.
Drives me nuts. Regardless of politics, I don’t want to listen to left/right/anything when I want to watch sports (which is becoming very infrequent). Very close to cutting out directv. I only want like 5 channels.
We have Dish, and hubby shells out the extra just so he can watch Nascar, football and basketball. I’d not spend a dime on it.
Thank GOD our package includes RFDTV for Country’s Family Reunion and Larry’s Country Dinner.
