Dear Florida Second Amendment Supporter, The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund has endorsed Second Amendment supporter Michael Chitwood for Volusia County Sheriff in the Republican Primary election on Tuesday, August 30.
(Excerpt) Read more at nrapvf.org ...
Michael Chitwood, the current Chief of the DBPD is no friend of gun owners or The Second Amendment (or even The First, but that's another story).
In the past, as Chief Chitwood has appeared on local TV and Radio programs has openly expressed his hostility to gun owners who have chosen to exercise their 2nd Amendment rights.
He has stated that law abiding individuals have no need to possess 1000 rounds of ammunition in their homes.
He has also referred to individuals who decided to legally open carry while fishing as "knuckeheads".(DBPD-Controversies)
In other interviews he has spoken out against high capacity mags and "assault rifles".
I find it mind boggling that the NRA would give this clown an "A' rating let alone endorse him.
Also, the card the NRA sent out implies that all the candidates are Republicans. They are not! This is a non partisan race, however if you dig deep enough you will find the Republicans: scroll down to Sheriff's race -Volusia Republicans Endorse Some In Non-Partisan Races
Remember this is not a primary for Sheriff. Winner becomes Sheriff.
You can visit each of the candidates websites here:
So far it looks like Dave Brannon is the only one who says he supports the 2nd Amendment AND the Constitution on his site. He is also one of the two Republicans. The other one is Eric Dietrich.
No need to remind anyone that if we get nailed by a hurricane again (God forbid) we don't want a gun grabber as Sheriff. Choose wisely.
Oh, and if you feel like it be sure to let the NRA know what they can do with this endorsement and why.
You can let Chitwood know how you feel on his Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/votechitwood/?fref=ts
Scroll down about halfway where he mentioned his NRA endorsement, some others are calling him on his past positions.
Bizarre
I live in Southern Maine, Portland area.
Chitwood used to be the Police Chief of Portland.
His favorite place was in front of the TV cameras.
How in the world he could be endorsed by any pro 2nd amendment organization is beyond me. He was in no way conservative, and I’d say anti gun if anything. I would seriously doubt he’d support a home owner’s right to defend his home.
My dad, who’s now 86 and a former pastor and gun store owner, never swears, but had a special name for this guy.
Bookmark....
I live in Maine, too (but in the 2nd Congressional District).
I remember when this sack of feces Chitwood was police chief in Portland, Maine more than 20 years ago.
He is EXTREMELY hostile to the Second Amendment and was seen in public at anti-gun rallies with Sarah Brady.
What the hell is wrong with the NRA? If they are with this guy then I am not with them.
NRA also endorsed Joe Manchin for US Senate ... TWICE. The man is a gungrabbing scumbag.
Would this be the same NRA who gave dingy harry an “A” rating? That NRA?
Bizarre indeed. What are they smoking over there?????
This is not the first time this has happened. Do some research. You may find the NRA-much like GOP-is not nearly as conservative as you might think.
Yep. The NRA endorsed Harry Reid, f'Petessake...
All for a fancy gun range he had built, wasn’t it?
This Mike Chitwood Jr., Portland Maine former chiefs son. He is currently the chief in Daytona Beach Florida. Don’t know why they don’t use Jr. and Sr.
Tough to remember sometimes, but the NRA - I'm a Life member - is really nothing more than a gun owners' lobby, and has all the faults of any DC lobby. Some of the backs they have to scratch are pretty dirty and this one is no exception.
Liberals like Michael Moore have NRA life memberships because they want to vote and take NRA from within
Joe, Florida ping please ... emphasis on Volusia County.
Yes I know. That's why it's important to also vote for the NRA Board members when we get the ballots. I used to not bother until I heard one board member state publicly he didn't believe private citizens should be allowed to own AR15 rifles since you can't hunt with them anyway. His name escapes me at the moment but he got booted next time around. Ex LEO as I recall.
Is this the Chitwood who was the chief of police in Portland Maine 20 years ago?
Well he didn’t fall far from the tree.
Leftist ass.
