The Veterans of Foreign Wars blasted Donald Trump on Monday for his comments about Ghazala Khan, the mother of a fallen Muslim Army captain, calling the Republican nominee "out of bounds."
Election year or not, the VFW will not tolerate anyone berating a Gold Star family member for exercising his or her right of speech or expression, said VFW leader Brian Duffy in a statement.
Story Continued BelowTrump said in his interview with ABC that aired Sunday that Ghazala Khan "wasn't allowed to have anything to say" as her husband, Khizr, criticized the Republican nominee at the Democratic National Convention last week.
There are certain sacrosanct subjects that no amount of wordsmithing can repair once crossed, Duffy said in the statement. Giving ones life to nation is the greatest sacrifice, followed closely by all Gold Star families, who have a right to make their voices heard.

WHAT!?
WE WILL BE SILENT???
That was just the way it was and people chose accordingly.
Mr. niteowl77
Concur; Trump should not attack anyone but Clinton/Kaine for the duration of the campaign. Focus.
Yeah he really didnt say anything bad at all..yet the left can call for the murder of Patricia Smith and not a peep from Trump or ANYONE else..they all fall on their sword to protect this Jihadist towel head..this election is turning into a disaster, because the media is ALL in the tank for the Democrats and Trump’s handlers are NOT telling him the right things to say..if America wants Clinton as President, what can I say, what’s done is done
Not going to win attacking the VFW ..., focus and compete.
Show me the inappropriate statement. Do you notice they never dwell on Trump’s words because he was not impolite to those people?
I want Mrs Smith (Benghazi) honored. Did the VFW go after Hillary on that?
When did Obama visit Pakistan and when did the Khans leave Pakistan?
Did they meet while both in Pakistan?
What did they talk about?
I’m in the VFW. . . demonHACKS.
Attack the family. That is allowed, especially when they act like political slime.
Just because their son died did not grant them a protected status where they can go around saying whatever, lying like a democrat, and can’t be called for it. No special status for the parents.
Ann Coulter made this very point when she called out the select 9-11 widows for lying and being willfully used by the demonHACKS.
That’s odd, as it is on the list of foreign wars that the VFW officially recognizes for membership.
Yes... they preceded a dangerous new trend.
FWIW the VFW’s Facebook site is exploding with people defending Trump.
My uncle never returned. . .he is now buried in the family cemetery in rural Minnesota. He lied about his age to enlist in WWII (older brother signed the papers), was recalled for Korea and, well, he left a widow.
As I said, they would have allowed me to join, but “unofficially” they didn’t want me. Who wants to join that?
“I joined the VVA, but quit 6 months later when I discovered they allowed non-VN vets to join. “
Not sure that you mean, there.
I have a PERSONAL message for the
Muslim father whose son was killed in IRAGAlan West (July 31, 2016)
I have said that outside of FR and other pro-Trump sites like Breitbart, this is going over like a lead balloon with the general public.
The problem wasn’t Trump responding. The media kept raving over this as a takedown of Trump, so I don’t have a problem with him responding. George S. went right in with it. The problem, as with the judge, was just how it was articulated. All he needed to say was that he thanked the family for their sacrifice, called the son a hero, and then responded to the father’s comments in regards to his not reading the Constitution, defense of his Muslim ban (which is really restricting immigration from countries compromised by terrorism), and his defense of the wall. Those were the three things the father attacked him on. That’s a policy response.
As far as the sacrifice comments, those were a baited question by George S. that Trump answered literally. Trump should have just said that neither he NOR Hillary made that sacrifice that the Kahn family made and left it at that. George asked personally what he has done. Trump answered. He wasn’t trying to compare himself to the father, but the media did it. It was all a trap. George S. must have had trouble containing himself when Trump answered that. I bet they high-fived in the ABC studios after Trump left.
Where he went wrong was saying Hillary gave him a line for his speech and criticizing the mother. The mother was the main thing. That is where I am seeing so much outrage. You can’t win in the court of public opinion vs. a mother who lost her son. You can’t. The proof in the pudding is that the VFW is not a liberal group. In fact, they received Trump much better than Hillary.
.."exercising his or her right of speech or expression" TO INCLUDE TRASHING SOMEONE you better expect that person stand up for himself and FIGHT BACK.
FU Brian Duffy, FU for not realizing the Khan family is being USED by the DNC for political leverage.
Kudos to Trump for standing up for himself. 'Gold Star' does NOT mean you have some special right to trash someone with impunity.
The Khans are a DNC CON JOB.
Sounds like a bunch of drunks.
