Thirty-five years after he tried to kill a president, John Hinckley has won his freedom.
A federal judge in Washington, D.C., has granted a request for Hinckley to leave the mental hospital where he's lived for decades, to go live full-time with his elderly mother in Williamsburg, Va.
The release could happen as early as next week, the judge ruled. Under the terms of his order, Hinckley is not allowed to contact his victims, their relatives or actress Jodie Foster, with whom he was obsessed. Hinckley also will not be permitted to "knowingly travel" to areas where the current president or members or Congress are present. The judge said Hinckley could be allowed to live on his own or in a group home after one year.

Has anyone told Hinckley Jodie Foster is a lesbian?
Incredible
Donald watch your back. Snakes don’t change.
This slime tried to kill President Reagan. He should have been sent to the Super Max in Colorado.
There is officially no justice in this world.
And has a thing going with Hillary! Hey, we can dream!
NPR reports this with great glee as they break out the reefers.
Take THAT, you Reagan-worshippers!
Not allowed to knowingly travel????
So after he tries to kill someone ...too late.
He should be on house arrest
We are still crazy after all these years.
The Hinckley case motivated a radical overhaul of “not guilty by reason of insanity.” The decision was a travesty of justice in the first place, and this just shows how the arrogant obstinence of judges is blind to justice.
*Not allowed*?
Like that’s going to stop him?
His sentence, coddled as it was, was predicated on mental illness.
If this judge is declaring him sane then he can and should be held responsible for his crimes and treated like any other assassin.
In other words, treatment is not confinement. The judge is declaring treatment over. Time for punishment.
I thought when Brady died it was determined his death was from complications of Hinckley shooting him and they would charge him with his murder. Guess not.

Not surprised.
Two can play that game..
FREE SIRHAN SIRHAN!
I think if you try to kill the president you should never get out, ever.
Was this a Dem appointed judge or a GOP appointed judge?
Friedman was nominated by President Bill Clinton on March 22, 1994, to a seat vacated by Gerhard A. Gesell. He was confirmed by the United States Senate on June 15, 1994, and received his commission on June 16, 1994. He assumed senior status on December 31, 2009.
“Wins” his freedom is a bizarre way to put it.
