Cable news is bad. Fox News is the worst. It is, after all, the network that blamed a hoodie for the death of Trayvon Martin and claimed that poor people have it pretty good if theyve got a refrigerator. Wed all probably be better off if we shut off Sean Hannity and Megyn Kelly and watched sports or nature documentaries or talked to our families. This does not have to be a hypothetical. We have the technology in our very own homes to make this dream a reality.
Abby, a Slate reader, watched her motherwhod lived in the United States as a permanent resident for nearly 30 yearsbecome a U.S. citizen to vote for Hillary Clinton in the 2008 Democratic primary. She was quite surprised, then, to find her mother becoming an increasingly attentive Fox News viewer. Abby felt she had no choice: The child unleashed the power of parental lock on her own mother.
After Abbys mother called her cable operator to ask why the channel wasnt working, Abby revealed that she had blocked it. The mother and daughter then had the opportunity to have a conversation about whether it was a good news source or not.

Excellent plan.
I have been doing this for years.
No CNN, MSNBC, and the Nightly news on the major networks is blocked too. If you learn how to use it you can block by program. 60 Minutes, 20/20, Dateline, Newshour on PBS, etc.
none of that is available in my hose hasn’t been for years
Amen!
I see that a lot denial causes it.
All the stuff surrounding the DNC and their acolytes reminds me of an old Keystone Cops movie.
How about locking her out of your will.
After all the mother is only double her daughters age and is therefore not capable of making her own decisions.
With the right programming just let OAN through, and block Fox except for Hannity, the Judge, Cavuto, and Dobbs.
I know, how stupid is this????
The liberal daughter knows better, so the liberal daughter who in other contexts hates the idea of censorship, censors her mother from watching Fox News. Absurd.
OK then, how about mother and daughter watch MSNBC together, then discuss what the MSNBC talking heads have to say. Would the daughter be aghast if her mother had a different opinion from Chris Mathews or Rachel Maddow????
Coming from Slate, I’m really trying to figure out if this is a parody article or not.
I was hoping this was a joke.
Censorship comes in many forms, but this is a scenario that caught me by surprise.
Another example of leftist desperation, when the argument loses.
Know a few senior citizens that still only have over-the-air TV. So all they see is CBS, etc.
If the kids are of age, kick them out.
If not, cancel cableTV, take away cell phones, video games, etc.
Hey, remember when we got that DUmmie fired from his job at the auto dealership for blocking Fox News and hiding the
remote?
Good times!
I think liberals have been passing this idea along to each other for a while. My mother tried to do this to my grandma several years ago to block Fox News. Of course when my grandma told me the effort failed. The idea gave me a good laugh though.

Honor thy father and thy mother.
Considering that these are the people whose names are on the bill, it would be a simple matter to call the cable company, learn the password, change it, and then unblock the desired channels.
