Cities bidding for NCAA games must submit details on discrimination

The NCAA on Friday said cities looking to host future championship games must submit details by Aug. 12 about how they will protect participants from discrimination, a move that could hurt North Carolina's chances of landing future games.

The announcement came one day after the NBA said it was moving the 2017 All-Star Weekend from Charlotte over a controversial North Carolina law known as House Bill 2.

Cities that have already been awarded games will face a separate questionnaire deadline, which will be determined later, the NCAA said.

Cities bidding for games now must complete a questionnaire from the NCAA detailing any local anti-discrimination laws. One of the questions asks: "Does your city, county/parish and/or state regulate choice of bathrooms or locker rooms that may affect student-athletes, coaches, administrators, or game officials during the Event?"

The NCAA said committees for each of its 90 NCAA championships will use the questionnaire information to ensure they award championships to cities that meet all hosting requirements.

The cities should force the NCAA to submit the “rap sheets” of all of the players who would be coming into their town to play.

Ask yourself this....if they really did this gimmick, and you picked up the top 100 urbanized communities of the US...coast to coast....how many cities would fail this test and not be eligible for the NCAA games? Maybe fifty to sixty percent? All they are doing is creating a fake bubble to ensure certain communities will always get the games and certain cities will never get the games.

Brilliant! I know my town would be very distressed if a bunch of basketballers showed up...

Here in NJ years ago shore towns were playing “hot potato” with a week-long event of black fraternities; nobody wanted them, and I believe they eventually settled on blighted Asbury Park as their venue.

Was that the same group? I wasn’t aware that it was a national event (thought it was for NJ schools, but never looked at the details).

Thanks for the info; why would they hold a national convention so far north? I’d think it would be much more accessible in states further south; I hope someone shares that tidbit of information with them...
