Mike Huckabee: ‘Trump Trusted Ted and Was Rewarded with a Betrayal’
Breitbart ^ | 21 Jul 2016 | Alex Swoyer

Former 2016 GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee says fellow former candidate Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) betrayed Republican nominee Donald Trump last night at the Republican National Convention.

Cruz opted not to endorse Trump after he vowed — as the other candidates had — to support the eventual nominee.

“This is flatly false.
Newt reviewed Cruz’ speech before it was delivered.”

From the article:

“Donald Trump did something no previous nominee has done—he allowed Ted Cruz to speak without his promising to support the nominee. I’ve spoken at every convention since 1992, and I can attest to the fact that no one got near that stage without supporting the nominee. Trump trusted Ted and was rewarded with a betrayal”

It appears that Mike Huckabee disagrees with you.

I'm not sure what really happened.

I look forward to following Cruz lack of success in the private sector, now that his career in government is almost over.

Mike Huckabee is not part of the convention.

Newt said on Hannity last night that campaign had a copy of Cruz’ speech and that’s why he was ready with the ‘correction’ ‘paraphrasing’ Cruz and saying that when Cruz said to ‘vote your conscience and vote for the candidate who will uphold the Constitution, that he obviously meant Trump.

Agreed. Seems the “brilliant” Cruz didn’t have any smarts after all.

You’re absolutely right. Pence and his family are wonderful people. They look like real Americans.

Trump knew in advance what Cruz was going to say and just gave him the rope to hang himself. I guess Cruz will now complain that it was a new rope as well.

Being of Latino ancestry like Ted-I understand and take venganza very seriously-but playing your hand in public like that is just not done-it only makes you look bad and puts your enemy on guard-one of my uncles used to say the best revenge employs things done in the dark of night...

I’m pretty sure a tough guy from NYC like Trump knows that-and he is certainly not someone I’d dare to double cross or betray-Ted is toast...

I believe that DJT is a savvy enough guy to have never fully trusted Cruz, and had that view reinforced - in spades - over time. The campaign did get a look at the speech in advance, so they knew what was coming.

DJT acted graciously by letting Cruz speak, and probably did about what DJT expected. DJT thus looks better (or, more accurately, demonstrated to everyone the kind of person he actually is), and at the same time he gave Cruz the rope with which he hung himself. Cruz, of course, being a short-sighted egomaniac, dutifully wrapped it around a yard-arm and his neck, and then jumped. Idiot!

Everyone is seemingly surprised...but just remember, DJT is a big and long-term thinker/strategist. No, he’s not perfect, but he’s playing 3-D chess at a high level while most everyone else is having trouble mastering checkers. You don’t get where he has without being brilliant and planning, planning, planning. Hillary is going to be destroyed.

And I think we will see Trump rewarded with a tsunami of many small donations again amounting to $ millions. Thank you Lyin’ Ted!

He gave him the rope and he hanged himself. It was epic.

The only thing surprising to me out of this Cruz convention debacle is the level of Cruz’ madness. I think he has reached Glenn Beck’s level. Train wrecks can be fascinating.

By whom, exactly?

Lyin’ Ted lies again. He actually committed political suicide by breaking that promise to support the eventual nominee.

Trump let him hang himself. His q&a this morning was dirt on the grave.

“His campaign of seemingly uncouth ‘personal insults’, was so clever.”

I think you are buying into the left’s narrative here. They are not ‘personal insults’ if they are true. I’ll agree Trump knows how to hit back hard, but he’s not cleverly hitting a nerve - he’s bravely telling the truth and refusing to back down.

Of course, Trump’s Democrat and MSM enemies on the left push this narrative and constantly try to conflate his supposed harshness with claims of racism, sexism and bigotry.

Spineless and short sighted Republicans join the left in demonizing Trump. Some are freshly butt hurt from the primary trouncing, and others like Romney are making some sort of misguided political calculation that they would be better off with status quo gravy train Hillary than with the Trump train.

I would just like to say this ‘campaign of personal insults’ is a completely false narrative. Trump is telling the truth and sometimes the truth hurts. Ted IS lying. Hillary IS crooked. Jeb IS low energy. Rosie o’Donnel IS fat and disgusting (or whatever he called her).

No one is used to hearing a politician tell the unvarnished truth, especially a Republican. It sounds shocking because we are not used to it. We have been trained to think it’s rude to call someone who is lying a liar, or call that which is stupid stupid, or that which is evil evil.

The left is even training us (especially our children) to believe it is racist or xenophobic to name or describe our enemies. To do so is profiling. Anything that describes their appearance, their behavior or even their stated mission to kill us, is considered to be a racial, religious or cultural slur.

Is it any wonder that a man who tells the unvarnished truth would be demonized for it in this politically correct environment?

Don’t fall for the false narrative that Trump cleverly uses personal insults to ‘raise the blood’ of his opponents and gets them to self destruct.

He is just telling the truth and nobody is used to hearing it.

Thank God after a 30 year wait we will again have a president who has the guts to say what needs to be said and do what needs to be done.

Mr. Huckabee, Trump knew exactly what was going to happen and also knew how, with perhaps a little encouragement from his floor managers, the convention would react. Most importantly, he knew how Cruz would behave. From Trump’s point of view Cruz needed go and things were managed so he went voluntarily.

The Pence family is lovely! How sad that the dishonorable Cruz put a damper on Pence’s evening just to spite Trump. What a jerk!
