Funai made the Magnavox DVD player/recorder and I use it quite often. It states this recorded DVD will play on Most DVD players and all Magnavox players.

Went to buy a new DVD player, and all they had was Funai, so I bought one. The remote will operate both the Funai and Magnavox players. The cases for both recorders are the same.

The Funai will NOT play the DVDs recorded from a Funai Magnavox recorder. Go figure!

I tried to find a VCR about 10 years ago. Stores no longer sold them. A few years later, they did have a VCR-DVD, but IIRC, it would only play DVDs, not record to them.

DVRs replaced them. But DVRs were very poorly constructed. The first one, an iO brand, lasted just beyond the 90 day warranty before the drawer locked. I tried about 4 more. Samjunk lasted just beyond the year warranty. Magnavox DVR-HDD lasted about 2 years before it started having problems switching from the DVR to the HDD.

About 6 months ago, I went with a TiVo Bolt. It records to a hard drive and works semi-okay with cable. But it will record 4 channels at the same time, while the cable offering of about the same price will only record 2 channels.

Yes, I think we got rid of our videos when the last VCR bit the dust 5 years ago. DVDs now seem old school, when most of what we watch can be done by Netflix ect.

I had hundreds of VHS tapes. I had hundreds of music cassettes. I was moving and looked at boxes upon boxes of the tape media. I tossed them all out. Haven’t regretted it a bit.

A sad day. I worked in a mall selling VCR’s during college. I personally sold more than 350 of them during the ‘85 Christmas season.

Betamax #1 was the best machine I’ve owned! Great visual fidelity, simple programming ability, great sound, Far superior to VCRs, which I’m still unable to program due to complexity. That said, I suspect I’ll keep my vcr until the last repairman dies. Not planning to purchase a transfer machine! And if connectivity to the future cloud home of my movies goes out due to whatever, I’m gonna have a backup generator to run my old dvd and vcr players! Of course, to my kids, I sound like my grandfather who told stories about Model ‘A’s arriving in pieces on flatcars from the factory!

Sure wish I could get a Blu-Ray Writer with VHS, like I have with my DVD and VHS player. It’s great for burning my own personal tapes to digital backup.
