he Trump staffer who took the fall for lifting several passages of Melania Trump’s speech from an earlier address by Michelle Obama is a registered Democrat in New York, public records show.
Meredith McIver, a longtime writer for the Trump organization, admitted that she had helped Melania compose the speech she delivered at the GOP convention Monday night.
Melania, she said, had read her several passages of Obama’s 2008 speech to the Democratic convention over the phone and she mistakenly inserted them into the speech, she admitted in a statement.
Team Trump at first adamantly denied that there was any plagiarism — but fessed up Wednesday when McIver admitted the mistake.

being a registered dim or ‘puke doesn’t necessarily mean anything. i was a registered dim from 1988 when i moved to CO and wanted to vote for dick lamm in a primary. never bothered to change it until last year. changed to unaffiliated which gives me more options as an election judge. i have NEVER voted for a dim in a general election but have held my nose for some GOPe RINO bastards like mcvain and dole and romney.

Here’s my reaction to the Melania Trump kerfuffle: the adversarial media awakens from its eight-year hibernation. We’re back to the Bush years, when EVERYTHING - up to and including Thanksgiving photo-ops - was a scandal.
Did Trump hire this person? why do we have a democrat writing speeches for Trump’s wife?

Let me summarize this “scandal”: Melania Trump, apparently an admirer of Michelle Obama (barf), called her speechwriter and asked her to include some sentiments from a Michelle speech about the importance of keeping your word. The speechwriter did so, and in a ten-minute speech, two sentences roughly approximated comments made by Obama on a rather banal topic. That’s it. The media sicken me.

She has been ghost-writing his books for many years. But that doesn’t mean he hired her. Maybe she was hired by the publishing house that put out the books.

It is what media does, in every election and on every major issue. They try to damage the good guys and promote and cover for the evil ones. The news is what they say it is, never what it should be, the truth. The issue is never the issue. The truth is never the point. The point is always only the leftist agenda. The biased media has too much power in our politics. A very few elites have the power to tell the sheep what the news is. They journa-list their talking points to this day, every single day. There is no valid competition. There is no diversity in what counts as news.
Until there is at least one major arm of the media that promotes true and honest journalism, this will always be the case. I once thought that alternative journalism and blogs would evolve and consolidate into that competition media desperately needs. In the aftermath of the death of Andrew Breitbart it became clear to me that that evolution died with him.
American consumers of information must come to the realization that they are being lied to on a daily basis. Many can’t even conclude that Bill lied to their faces, that Mrs. Bill lied and will continue to lie to their faces, or that Obama continues to lie right to their faces daily.
The speech issue is two days old. The way in which Trump team handled it head on illustrated honesty in their approach to issues. They got to the bottom of it quickly. Compare with the Clinton approach to just about any topic and the contrast becomes clear to anyone actually paying attention.
The media will never be Trump’s friend. Only a tool he can try to use, and an adversary he must always deal with. Trump will never be treated fairly by the media as it is presently constituted. I say we need media reform, I just don’t know what that could possibly look like.
Final observation. It’s not working on Trump like it always has for ‘conservative’ pols. The media has met its match. But that will not stop them from trying, and he must always be prepared for their attack. I suspect he is. McCain, Palin, Romney, they were always on media caused defense while the Rat Obama was gaining momentum. Clinton thinks she can pull off that strategy as well because she knows the media is compliant. I believe she met her match (Obama) in 2008 and has met her final match in 2016. She is done, just doesn’t know it yet.
Just about over - they’re moving on to the campaign assistant who said Hillary should be executed.....
I’m believing this was on purpose. It got a lot of publicity and the statement about it is as innocent as can be. It’s not the Trumps fault...it’s the DEMOCRATS fault...lol...she offered to resign and the Trumps look big hearted and inclusive!
Well, she’s worked for the Trump organization for many years, including helping write his books. So if Trump believes her and kept her on I accept his judgement.

I don't know what to believe. If she was helping Trump with his books, you'd think she knows to be very careful about the sources of information. She honestly might not have known that this wasn't a casual speech, but rather a historical document.
I don't blame Melania at all. She speaks five languages very well, but English isn't her first language. It's normal for someone to need some help with expressions in things that are written in a second language.
The only way I'd think it's mischief is if this very inept speech writing assistant suggested Michelle's words to Melania as a source of inspiration.
