Turkey vowed to root out allies of the U.S.-based cleric it blames for an abortive coup last week, widening a purge of the army, police and judiciary on Tuesday to universities and schools, the intelligence agency and religious authorities.
Around 50,000 soldiers, police, judges, civil servants and teachers have been suspended or detained since the coup attempt, stirring tensions across the country of 80 million which borders Syria's chaos and is a Western ally against Islamic State.
"This parallel terrorist organisation will no longer be an effective pawn for any country," Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said, referring to what the government has long alleged is a state within a state controlled by followers of Fethullah Gulen.
"We will dig them up by their roots," he told parliament.
A spokesman for President Tayyip Erdogan said the government was preparing a formal request to the United States for the extradition of Gulen, who Turkey says orchestrated the failed military takeover on Friday in which at least 232 people were killed.
U.S. President Barack Obama discussed the status of Gulen in a telephone call with Erdogan on Tuesday, the White House said, urging Ankara to show restraint as it pursues those responsible for the coup attempt.

Gulen sould never be extradited unless and until all 150 US based Charter schools, foundatiins, realestate holdings, business enterprises etc are eradicated.
[ Welcome to the Caliphate...and to the Caliph. ]
Certainly he’s trying it. My guess is he’s creating a minimum of 10x more enemies.
Turkey could get.......interesting.
If Obama gives up Gulen he will also condemn 50,000 + people ,Obama will never wash that blood off
Starts when you’re always afraid:
Step out of line, the men come take you away.
And Erdogan’s paranoia is no doubt creating real paranoia over there.
He’s already gonna have about as much luck as Pontius Pilate.
Any doubt now that the whole thing was a faux coup to allow the new “Reichstag’s” purge?
The steps modeled by Erdogan are precisely the steps that the US should take to eradicate Islam domestically.
When Obama immediately went all in for Erdogan I knew that he was a very bad character. Obama is always on the wrong side of everything.
True words
Looking more and more like Erdogan set this up himself

Yeah, I think so, too.
yeah, right - 50,000 people involved in a failed coup attempt. Seems like just an excuse to consolidate power and eliminate opposition.
We fear are going to wish this faux-coup had succeeded.
Yeah, I warned to get the heck out of Turkey while the gettin was good.

It seems more certain than ever, the coup was a staged hoax, because without that coup “excuse”, the Islamists could never have justified 50,000 executions!
No coup would allow so many people to be part of anything, lest it be betrayed. Those 50k were much more likely Erdogan’s buddies’ pre-planned targets in moving toward an Erdogan dictatorship and his view of a caliphate.
An Erdoganian Turkey is not a country we should allow in NATO.

Obama will give the Nukes away as his going away present.
we may have millions of new muslim refugees storming Europe if this situation get worse. Turkey shares a land border with Bulgaria and Greece. It could get catastrophic.

He is sweeping out anyone who does not believe in sharia. Really bad.
The “coup” was clearly set up by Erdogan himself - to flush out not only those who were his enemies, but to flush out and expose any/all who were disloyal to purify and strengthen his grip on power.
Enemies and the disloyal gone, he can now indeed make himself Caliph......
I meant that sarcastically.;) This whole ‘coup’ is going to go down in infamy, along with the Reichstag fire.
