The Marine Corps first female artillery officers graduated from the Field Artillery Basic Officers Leaders Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, recently.
In the joint Army and Marine course, the Corps newest artillery officers met operationally relevant, gender-neutral military occupational specialty standards in order to graduate. This approach matches qualified Marines with the most suitable occupations in an effort to enhance the combat readiness of the force.
The officers course here is difficult, said Col. Wayne Harrison, commanding officer, Marine Detachment Fort Sill. It has a mix of technical and physical requirements that challenges the students.
One of the female officers who passed the course was 2nd Lt. Virginia Brodie. She graduated number one of the 137 students in both the gunnery portion of the course and in overall score and was recognized as her class distinguished honor graduate.
I really love this job and want to be a fire direction officer in a fire direction center, so that makes it easy to put in the extra time and effort, Brodie said.

All Marine officers attend the U.S. Army field artillery course at Ft. Sill, OK. after TBS.
Ummm? No mention of how gay and transgender Marine officers did in the program. </sarc>
Well, I guess the old term ‘Cannon Cockers’ is out................
We can call them “Molly Pitchers”.
The only question that needs to be answered is CAN THEY DO THE JOB?
Great. Our military has turned into a social experiment and we are facing armies of insane Jihaddis.
If women were suitable for combat roles, in the past 5,000 or so years of what we euphemistically term “civilization” they would have been employed as such.
And PLEASE, no crazy comments about some obscure tribe somewhere.
Imagine a female voice on the radio yelling “Drop 50, fire for effect!!”
Absolutely no way women could handle doing our job, not to mention humping 155mm or 8" rounds down on the big guns.
What you did there............I SEE IT.........
Yep, that’s where we are at. Gays in the military, girls in the military combat units, trans whatever in the military.
What really gets me about all of this, is this liberal idea that the military should be governed by the laws and social norms of civilian society.
The military is not the same as civilian society. The mission of the military is fundamentally different than the social norms and laws governing civilian society.
What this should mean, is that the military should have standards which best allow them to carry out the mission. And have the best people to allow them to do so.
We are having these debates about gays and trans and women in combat and such, as if we are debating discrimination against such people in civilian life.
And that’s wrong, in my opinion, and comes from a liberal mindset, that somehow one has a constitutional right to be in a Marine combat unit, or a Navy SEAL unit. Do you really have a constitutional right to such positions, regardless of the requirements of said position??? Liberals think so, but I think it’s because liberals don’t understand the needs and the mission of the military.

Replaced by “boob tubes” ?
Yessir. If she can level an ISIS position at 1500 yds. I’m a fan.
I just looked at my crooked toe from where I was “showing off” a long time ago. I dropped a 200 lb 8” round from off my shoulder into some soft sand. It landed on the base and as it fell over, the nose plug hit my boot before I could move my foot.. Taped it up and limped around for a couple of weeks until the FIREX ended.
BTW, 155’s are about 95 lbs if I remember correctly.
Molly Pitcher’s primary mission was to carry water for the crews. She took over for her husband when he fell out (he survived). Molly would have sponged the piece & rammed down the charge & ball, but I doubt she aimed & fired it. The gunner was in charge of firing.
Anyway....I don’t know about women Marines in combat MOSs. Just don’t.

well, one of the dears mentioned aboove does refer to herself as ‘Boy”...
does that count...?
OUCH, I hate it when that happens :-)
” If she can level an ISIS position at 1500 yds. Im a fan.”
She better be able to do it at more than 15,000 yds.
In a sane world, we'd not need to ask the question.
I hate liberals for what they've done to society.
The average male officer can help load and move the gun if members of his team become casualties.
How well will the average female officer manage lifting a 95 pound shell into the howitzer, if suddenly she needs to do so?
