Owner of stolen truck shoots alleged thief during scuffle (NM - Then arrested)

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Two people were arrested after a shooting over a stolen truck Friday.

22-year-old Joshua Ortega is facing charges for allegedly stealing a truck and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, but he’s not the only one charged.

The owner of that truck used the cell phone to track the vehicle to a neighborhood near Paradise and Eagle Ranch Thursday. He spotted his truck and called police, but the truck was driven away before they arrived.

Then Friday morning the owner saw the truck again. That’s when the truck’s owner, Christopher Martinez, told officers he took out his gun and demanded Ortega give the truck back.

There was a scuffle, and Martinez told police he feared for his life, so he shot Ortega. He was hit in the arm but was not seriously injured.

Martinez says Ortega took off in the truck. Ortega drove to a nearby doctor’s office on Golf Course seeking help.

Saturday morning in court it was revealed that Ortega has been arrested numerous times this year alone for car theft.

“This is his fourth auto theft case in 2016 alone, as well as the pending shoplifting case. We do find Mr. Ortega is a possible danger to the community as well as a possible flight risk,” said a court background official.

The owner of the truck and shooter, Christopher Martinez, was also arrested for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault.

I’ve lived in New Mexico for about 60 years.

Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Taos are ‘liberal’.

The rest of the state is still fairly sane and people are generally allowed (and willing) to defend themselves and their property.

Catron Country passed an ordnance that REQUIRED able-bodied residents to own at least one firearm back in the mid 90’s.

Jury nullification. Say anything it takes to get on the jury, then always vote not guilty. Deliberate, if you refuse you’ll get removed. Just always vote no.

New Mexico is “liberal” because it is 48% Hispanic.

New Mexico is just 38% white, and those whites are moderate Conservatives.

In 2012, white voters in New Mexico strongly supported Romney over Obama, 56% to 41%.

But, Obama won the state, 49% to 46%, because Hispanics supported Obama, 65% to 29%.

Also, the Libertarian candidate received 4% of the New Mexico vote, which probably hurt Romney a lot more than Obama.

A good idea, especially in places with ‘civilization’ so sparse....

Although, come to think of it... It is ‘civilization’ where you really need it..

Yes, in our house the agreement is that we won’t shoot anyone running away with our property.

Where do you live, again?

Seems justified to exercise one’s right of self defense right there...

Which one? If the one getting shot, then it is also OK to use that if being held at gunpoint by a cop while one is in the act of an illegal enterprise.

He could have shot his tires out to stop the POS perp from driving off, instead of the perp ...

At least he would have not gotten very far...

“Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Taos are ‘liberal’”

You could safely add Silver City to that list. Silver City has gone extremely libtarded the past 20 years. They’ve tried to turn it into another ‘artist’ sort of community, which has failed miserably as evidenced by all the boarded up shop windows on the old main drag, but it’s not for a lack of trying. There is an ever growing sodomite population and they had dozens ‘proudly’ marching in the parade this past independence Day. One of the local doctors (a dyke) opened the first Bernie Sanders campaign office in the whole state, which had the effect of littering the county with Bernie campaign signs, and now all the Subaru’s, Prius’s, and old VW’s have Bernie bumper stickers plastered next to their Obama and “No Damn Diversion” stickers.

The white Libtards, coupled with all the hispanics who always vote democrat (because that’s what grandpa always did), are now populous enough to out vote the rest of the (very) rural county. The rest of the county (Grant) has always been strongly conservative, but the libtards have even managed to get strong footholds in the small communities of Gila and Mimbres made up of aging hippies and enviro-nazis. If it were not for the presence of the copper mines and the working ranches the whole county would be strongly socialist. It saddens me to have watched the socialists do everything they can to try and shut down the mines, cattle ranches, and the once thriving logging industry.

What a beautiful story about police incompetence.

Someone steals his truck. He reports it but the cops can’t find it or were busy eating doughnuts. The owner tracks the truck and finds it. However, it takes off before the Keystone cops could ever get there...if they were coming at all. Then the guy catches up with the thief and they get into a scuffle and the owner shoots the thief and wounds him.

Then....the Keystone cops arrive and arrest HIM along with the thief and charge him with a crime for protecting his own property and life.

Stories like this happen every day and many on the police force are forced to ignore common sense in the name of political correctness and adherence to the rules of pandering to your boss.

I get mad as hell when I hear stories like this. We have every right to protect both our property and life as granted by the Constitution and Bill of Rights!

Sorry to hear that.

Yeah, I have noticed that all the nicer towns are turning left, slowly but accelerating. Dang tourists come in, like it, decide to stay, then they demand that their new town become just like the hellhole from which they escaped, except with maybe nicer scenery.
