Anti-Trump delegates are preparing a rules change proposal that would chart a path for delegates to choose their own vice presidential nominee at the Republican National Convention, instead of voting for Donald Trumps choice.
A draft proposal obtained by BuzzFeed News outlines several changes to Rule 40 that would make it easier for delegates to reject whomever Trump picks as his running mate and present their own alternative. BuzzFeed News has learned that it will be presented at the Rules Committee meeting next week in Cleveland ahead of the convention.
Already, delegates are technically not bound to vote for the nominees choice for vice president. But in the past, vice presidential picks have largely been automatically ratified by the convention after being chosen by the nominee.
This year is different, as a vocal contingent of anti-Trump delegates to the convention are searching for ways to stop Trump from being nominated or, failing that, to at least assert control over the partys vice presidential nominee.
The proposed rules change centers around Rule 40, which has already been a topic of much discussion this year. One of the rules clauses requires a candidate to win the support of the majority of delegates in eight states in order to be considered for the nomination. The rule was changed from five to eight states in 2012 to prevent Ron Pauls name from being given as an option. Changing that rule would allow non-Trump candidates to be considered for the nomination on the floor.

That certainly wouldn’t surprise me. Things were different then, we didn’t have access to the level of teeth-clenching by the GOPe back then, but I have NO DOUBT that they had the same level of fear with Reagan, and the way he started out from the gate made them that more desperate to stop him...even if that meant with a bullet.
I live in Maine, so I know that Lincoln’s vice president during his first term was Hannibal Hamlin of Bangor, Maine,
and Andrew Johnson was Lincoln’s VP during his abbreviated partial second term. Didn’t have to look it up.
Singapore caning sounds good for these people.
Rush is a (barely) closeted #Never Trump guy.
That’s because President Reagan picked Bush 1 as his running mate, to keep him close, as Bush 1 was part of the elite gang.
March??? Of what Century??? And what Country???
These delegates should just move on to the Democratic Party, and stop bothering the millions and millions of voters for Trump.
Proceedings should begin the day she gets elected.
“Thats funny. Earlier in the year the Trump people accused Rush of support Cruz, and the Cruz people complained he was support Trump. Sounds about right.
Rush has repeatedly said hes Anybody But Hillary, and hes also repeatedly said he will actively support the nominee. But that due to his position, he will not support anybody until then.”
The difference is that the Trump people were correct, and the Cruz people were delusional. In fact, Rush made fun of Trump, hung up on callers who supported him and took great delight in reading every anti-Trump article he could get his hands on (which wasn’t hard, since the media was churning them out 24/7) - all the while proclaiming that Ted Cruz was “the ideal conservative” and dismissing the idea that Cruz would ever lie about anything.
Now that the contest is over (knock on wood), however, I’d expect him to come out and support our candidate. If he has, it’s been about as enthusiastic as Paul Ryan’s endorsement (which is basically tantamount to no endorsement at all).
Of course, to be fair, I don’t listen to Rush every day, so he might have endorsed Trump and I’m simply unaware of it. I’m happy to be corrected, if that’s the case.
How much say does the Presidential candidate of either party really have in picking his running mate? How many times were VP choices more or less forced on the Presidential candidate. Seems that only when an incumbant is running for a second term does the President show any outright support before the election cycle begins.
Ward heeler turds.
Ted promised not to lie.
The rest of us, including yourself I’m sure, know it is imperative to bar Hillary from the White House. These nevertrumpers want to lose.
Trump’s a long way from perfect but he’s light years ahead of Clinton. It’s a quandary how they can fight Trump, now that the GOP contest is over, and claim to be conservatives.
No, be isn’t. He endorses no one prior to the convention. He tries to remain unbiased on the air. I always thought he liked Trump from the start.
Of course they are not conservatives. They have infiltrated the GOP for just this kind of moment where they hope to assist Hillary.
These Jack holes should have just worked on getting their candidate elected....oh but then they tried and couldn’t
The voters don’t want your kind
LMAO...”street cred” does not come by hiring a damn democrat.
Get lost, scum.
I so agree with you!!
I like West!!
