On Friday’s broadcast of CNN’s “The Lead,” presumptive Democratic presidential nominee former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton stated, “I’m going to be talking to white people. I think we’re the ones who have to start listening to the legitimate cries that are coming from our African-American fellow citizens,”

She concluded the discussion on policing and race with, “I have been involved in working to try to close the racial divide my entire adult life. I’ve worked on issues of criminal justice reform, incarceration, juvenile justice, for many decades, and I’m heartbroken that we have to keep repeating and doing that work year after year, but I am determined, and I am persistent. And I will call for white people, like myself, to put ourselves in the shoes of those African-American families who fear every time their children go somewhere, who have to have the talk about, you know, how to really protect themselves, when they’re the ones who should be expecting protection from encounters with the police. I’m going to be talking to white people. I think we’re the ones who have to start listening to the legitimate cries that are coming from our African-American fellow citizens, and we have so much more to be done, and we’ve got to get about the business of doing it. We can’t be engaging in hateful rhetoric, or incitement of violence.

He didn’t know about Dallas yet....I told him that watching the news went against medical advice. Seriously, watching my 81 yr old Navy vet Dad’s face these days regarding the deplorable state of his beloved country is breaking my heart.

Here’s the conundrum…. and let’s set aside the issue of Hillary’s vacuous statements for a minute. For all this notion about “we have to have a real conversation between blacks and whites”, the reality is that the less conversation there is, the closer one is truly getting to a state of colour and ethnic blindness.
For some reason, I seem to be situated somewhat uniquely in that I have a very percentage of mixed marriages amongst my closest associates and I’ve been observing them for a long time…. with family, at work neighbours, with friends and so on. Amongst that group is a complete hodgepodge of black-white, Asian-white, Indian-white, white-Afghanistani, white-Iranian, Chinese-black marriages and business relationships and on and on. Do you know the one topic that never seems to come up amongst what appears to be the most successful marriages and relationships of the group? And what topic never arises at family and general social gatherings? It’s race. These are just mature people who recognize that their humanity and their very existence was something that they had no control over. It just is. I remember one time at a party where one woman said to another “yeah, when I wake up in the morning and look in the mirror, I don’t think that I’m Chinese”. To which the other said “same here… on a day to day basis I never think of myself as a black person”. And the things that they have control over are the things that that they work hard on…. Education, work, marriages, community. I am absolutely convinced that all ‘conversations between races’ do is sow seeds of disharmony, jealously, strife and so on. Sure….. if there are serious social problems that has race at its core, there has to be something done about it….and that starts with a discussion. But since success is measured by the issue of race never coming up, what is the strategy from going from the state where it dominates in the forefront to the state where it never gets raised? What is the exit strategy from the ‘discussion’ phase? That is the issue that no politician has the balls to address because they don’t have a clue.
What is missed in a society that pretends that any level of harmony is possible without God (even amongst a group comprised of only one racial background) is the complete non-starter that this is. 2 Corinthians 6:14 states this….”Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?” This statement has nothing to do with colour, race, creed or societal upbringing or anything else that gets used to differentiate groups. It only has to do with whether the members of the relationship have a common faith in Jesus Christ….. because if they do, none of the other differences are important or even need to even be identified because they don’t matter.
This one is not listening.
