At a protest against police violence in Dallas, a young man wanders the streets with a gun casually slung over his shoulder.
The hefty weapon hangs all the way from his hip to his ankle, apparently barely raising the eyebrows of passersby.
A few hours after the Dallas shooting, local police posted a photo of the man on Twitter, saying: "This is one of our suspects. Please help us find him!" Videos later emerged online purportedly showing the man peacefully walking in the crowd during the shooting. The original tweet remains online -- long after he man, named Mark Hughes, told Dallas station KVTV he was interrogated by police and released without apology. The sight of someone walking through a packed protest toting a large gun would be cause for alarm for many people around the world, but in Texas, it's not so far-fetched.
Over 1 million gun carriers
Of the 27.5 million people who live in this southern U.S. state, more than 1 million people are licensed to carry a handgun.
Dallas County has 57,620 licensees -- the third highest number in the state, following Harris (139,563) and Tarrant (71,504) counties.
A "handgun" is defined as "any firearm that is designed, made, or adapted to be fired with one hand." While Texans are required to have a permit to carry a handgun, they do not need one for rifles or shotguns -- which may help explain the man at Thursday's protest brazenly toting a long weapon.
Texas is one of 45 states that allow some form of open carry. Only five states -- New York, Florida, Illinois, South Carolina and California -- and the District of Columbia ban

We don’t even know who the shooters are yet. The media have not reported who they are, to my knowledge.

It seems to me, way premature to launch right into the gun control debate over this police massacre.

How responsible is this administration for these deaths?
Um, no. Over a million people are permitted to carry a concealed weapon (now they are also allowed to open-carry a handgun with that same permit), but they’ve always been allowed to open carry rifles without said permit. It’s not a handgun permit.
Florida has 1.4 million concealed weapon permit holders as of March 2015. Probably an increased number now.
He of course agrees with Obama that more gun control is needed.

Open Carry is the law, but the guy picked a bad time to exercise his rights.
Found it interesting that the local new kept referring to “long guns” when all the tragedies before it’s been “assault rifles”

I swear to you all if I lived in the East where all the media personalities live I swear to you I would confront them or I would slash their tires break their windows ..whatever it took to put some fear into them! We need to start making ourselves known ... protests in front of their houses in the news building where ever they gather there should always be a protest and a confrontation!!! Who Is Micah Johnson? Dallas Shooting Suspect Identified As Area Resident

A suspect in the Dallas police shooting has been identified as Micah X. Johnson, 25, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday. Johnson was a resident of the Dallas area who had no ties to terror groups or a criminal history. An unnamed law enforcement official told the Los Angeles Times Johnson had relatives in Mesquite, Texas.
Five police officers were killed late Thursday by shooters during a peaceful protest over the deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile earlier this week. Dallas Police Chief David Brown said negotiations with one suspect, later identified as Johnson by a law enforcement official, broke down early Friday. After gunfire broke out, a bomb robot was used to kill Johnson.
“He wanted to kill officers. And he expressed killing white people, killing white officers, he expressed anger for Black Lives Matter,” Brown said during a press conference.
Brown said police cornered Johnson in a parking garage at El Centro College in Dallas and negotiated with him for several hours. CBS News also confirmed Johnson was the suspect.
“We saw no other option but to use our bomb robot and place a device on its extension for it to detonate where the suspect was. Other options would have exposed our officers to great danger,” Brown said. “He seemed lucid during negotiations.”

Do they expect us to believe that the suspects who executed the police officers had handgun permits?
Of the 2000 shooring victims and 319 dead so far this year in Chicago, how many of the perps had handgun permits?
From my perspective pretty much any male over the age of 13 living in a housing project has a concealed weapon or could get one. They just apprehended a 14 year old here, took his gun, and turned him over to his grandparents. I figure he’ll be dead in a few years
