House Republicans came face-to-face Thursday morning for the first time with Donald J. Trump. And most seemed to like what they saw.
The billionaire real estate tycoon met with the full House GOP conference at Republican National Committee headquarters, as Republicans try to suppress their displeasure with his controversial campaign and rally behind Trump before the GOP convention this month.
GOP sources say there was a "full house" for the meeting, with at least 200 lawmakers attending. Conservative CNBC commentator Larry Kudlow introduced Trump.
Trump hit on a number of safe Republican themes during his speech: tax reform, protecting the 2nd Amendment, repealing Obamacare, and the likelihood the next president will determine the balance of power on the Supreme Court. He preached unity and bashed both Hillary and Bill Clinton. Trump referred to Bill Clinton's meeting with Attorney General Loretta Lynch just as the Justice Department was winding down its investigation of Hillary Clinton's email practices.
Yet Trump also strayed into an area that Republicans didn't like, once again praised late Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein for killing terrorists.
Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) said he's still not convinced to support Trump, at least not yet.
"There was a lack of enthusiasm, you could feel it," Kinzinger said. Asked to describe the meeting, Kinzinger said it was "typical Donald Trump."
Kinzinger also said Trump brought up Saddam Hussein up on his own: "It was awkward. It was really awkward."
A number of members planned to skip the gathering, telling POLITICO they had prior engagements a doctors appointment, a breakfast meeting, committee hearings that prevented them from seeing their presumptive nominee in person.

Thanks for sharing the Politico hit piece
You RINO coward Republicans ignore him at your peril. We will find you, root you from the holes in which you’ve gone to ground and we will DESTROY you.

Cowards!!
Typical politico hit piece attempting to downplay Trump’s support.
Notice they go to an Illinois Rino for a comment.
That’s most of the House GOP.
I’m amazed they showed up at all.
And Trump’s not the guy they wanted to run with.
There sure are a lot of Sore Losermen in the GOP.
Larry Kudlow is a good man to have with the Trump Team. I listen to Larry’s radio program about finance and world events. I’m rather poor at math, but Larry is a good teacher and knows how to entertain his listeners. He also doesn’t mind sharing the stage. Kudlow may have a co-host on the air with him as they interview an added guest. Sort of like what John Batchelor does, but less esoteric, more germane to what’s now happening in the world.
If Glenn Beck were less neurotic, he could be helping in this way too.
The Democrats are good at enforcing their code of silence, enforcing party discipline.
More people voted for Trump than any other candidate in Republican primary history...and yet some idiots think they think they are in a position to bargain for some goodies in exchange giving their support for their party's candidate.
I hope Trump wins big, and starts off his administration by purging the party of these wimps.
I'm just glad that these idiots go on record with their backstabbing.
Fox reported that Trump received two standing ovations this morning.
He was accompanied by daughter Ivanka and RNC Chairman Reince Priebus.
Right now after what happened this past week. Anyone who claims to be republican and doesnt get fully behind the nominee, needs to be attacked ruthlessly.
I like Palin’s new name, RATS (Republicans against Trump).
They are VICHY RATS
the first one probably happened when he introduced Ivanka!
“Would ANY Democrat dare say that they would not support their party’s candidate?”
Which is actually why I have more respect for the vile democrats than I have for the even MORE vile GOP establishment.
Has anyone else heard the rumor that Ivanka could be the Vice Presidential pick? At first I thought it was nuts but it’s growing on me.
They were theorizing this morning on Fox News that Ivanka might be the VP candidate.
I doubt it, but she WILL just qualify age-wise and the contrast between her and Hillary couldn’t be greater.
Dismissing the report because it is Politico, I hope Trump got the message across: Get aboard or get out of the way. These RATS (like that), need to realize that Trump understands what we want more than Ryan. They got voted in to do a job and have instead cozied up with Obama. Anyone not supporting Trump should be primaried, even replaced with a Democrat if that is what it takes to get rid of them.
I doubt she would even be interested. She has her own talents and ambitions.
