Top Gear’s audience fell to a new low of two million viewers as the series stalled again in the ratings on Sunday.
It also emerged he was facing a police probe following historic accusations of sexual assault. A woman who worked with Evans in the 1990s claims he exposed himself to her and grabbed her breasts.
Sources told The Mirror that Evans, 50, was not asked to step down and he will not be replaced in the near future. The newspaper also reported that Top Gear is in pre-production for series 24 and Matt LeBlanc is now the lead presenter.
Over the last six weeks, Top Gear has struggled to make an impact in the overnights — the figures for the previous day’s viewing.
It launched over a Bank Holiday weekend in the UK with 4.4 million viewers on May 29.
Top Gear’s second episode then plummeted to 2.8 million, and the show never went back above that figure. The finale limped in with 1.9 million viewers.
There were also reports — denied by Evans — that the host had fallen out with co-star, Matt LeBlanc...

A friend of Evans told The Daily Telegraph in the UK he quit because he was sick of the constant criticism he faced...
Evans took over hosting duties of the revamped Top Gear after popular host Jeremy Clarkson was sacked for punching a producer. His loyal co-hosts James May and Richard Hammond quit shortly after.
The trio attracted audiences of 5.8 million, making Top Gear one of the BBC’s most popular programs ever.
They are now working on a motoring show for Amazon Prime.

Jeremy Clarkson was willing to be physically uncomfortable and even put himself in danger for the sake of a good story and had a dramatic flair while doing it.
Chris Evans was too pretty to do that.
I thought this crew was pretty good, BUT YOU CANNOT AND WILL NEVER REPLACE JEREMY CLARKSON AND HIS BRASH, RAW WIT!!!
His looks and limited talent made him a fortune. He should be thrilled and go take up a hobby.
That’s one loser gone. Now if they can just get rid of the guy from Friends. Top Gear does not need an American (unless its The Stig).
I only watched one episode this season and it was horrible.

I know Matt here in L.A. For the record, most of the FRiends cast are rabid, anti GOP, retarded liberal moonbats such as Aniston and Cox and Leblanc is the sanest of the bunch.

I suspect most fans saw this failure coming. The previous show may have begun as something else, but it had developed into a personality-driven series based on those three guys.

I have been enjoying Jay Lenos Garage too.
It’s a pretty good show. I’m afraid for his safety at times.
