Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst is among the candidates being considered to become Donald Trump's running mate, a source with knowledge of Trump's vice presidential selection process tells CNN. Another source close to the process confirmed the information. It's not clear whether the freshman Republican senator and tea party star has received paperwork from the campaign or is just being scrutinized through the wealth of publicly accessible information about her.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Indiana Gov. Mike Pence are also being considered, the source said. A senior Trump campaign adviser confirmed Pence is being formally vetted.

I think that Joni Ernst is s definite head fake. After his tweet, it can never be said that Trump did not consider a woman. Pence seems to be a much more viable selection. I have changed my mind about this selection about ten times. Right now I am between Gingrich and Christie. The real dark horse here is Tom Cotton.

I mentioned this on FR on July 1st:) I was informed by someone coming back from Trump’s speech in Bangor Maine who was on Trump’s plane, that Ernst had moved up on Trump’s radar & was seriously being considered.

Tom Cotton’s my pick. He’s young, smart (has command of facts w/o notes), a veteran of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars; on Armed Services Committee and Select Committee on Intelligence; Banking, and able to hold his own in interviews.

Please, Mr. Trump, don’t let it be another old white guy or RINO, this could make or break campaign.

I’ve been urging Trump-Santorum for weeks, but people say Rick is too weak to help.

As I recall: Cute, new to politics, so-so voting record

From the Midwest; opportunity to persuade undecided voters, especially GOP women. She win Iowa statewide by 8+ points in 2014.

Looks matter. Right or wrong. But it's true. In life, looks matter.

Marsha Blackburn has this. Besides the important credentials. She is pleasing looking, pleasing demeanor. Telegenic.

She has the looks---but her credentials are definitely more suitable than many names that have been mentioned, easily: Joni, Christie, and most of the others.

Men and women will both be pleased viewing and listening to Marsha. And she has more cred than almost any other name mentioned.

How could she vote for Ryan?

I think he means she supported Ryan for the Speakership.

That wouldn't be a positive sign.

At this point and to the best of my knowledge, I suppose Senator Sessions is really the only kindred spirit Mr. Trump has of note who embraces his tough anti-illegal immigration policy.
Still, President Trump needs Sessions in the Senate.
Moreover, Sessions does absolutely nothing in bringing key electoral votes. Alabama is a lock for Trump!!

I expect Democrats to be illiterate but it always surprises me when conservatives leave out words and punctuate and capitalize like fifth-graders.

I didn’t say Ernst voted for Ryan. What I would believe is that she supported him during his miraculous ascension to the Speakership.

They just seem like similar kinds of ambitious little Republicans.

As it happens she is quoted online as saying that “Paul Ryan is a doer—especially on budget issues.”

At this point that is most amusing, since her prissy little friend couldn’t get a budget passed at all.

But she has John McCain pushing her hard for the Veep spot.

That’s great news in your eyes, right?

I really question how Ernst would respond when she was Palinized by the MSM. Trump can’t afford a babe in the woods on his ticket and she has not been battle tested in this crazy campaign season.

For me Sessions is the only VP candidate that is the close to the total package. Policy, service during political nuclear war for Trump, lack of baggage, etc. He does lack regional appeal which is a problem. But Trump pulling somebody out of the woodwork like Ernst is a bigger risk, IMO.

Agnew couldn’t deliver MD for Nixon in 1968 but had been expected to do so.

Hell, if Cruz was selected I would stay home. That will never happen. It’s Newt. Newt has no baggage . I can’t even make up his baggage. Hillary has baggage so voluminous it would take pages and pages.

Well .. newbies are rarely allowed to do much .. so you could cut her a little slack.

And .. wasn’t she in the military ..?? Or do I have her confused with somebody else ..??
