Preamble to the Declaration of Independence

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed, by their Creator, with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.

That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles, and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.

Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.

This one looks just like our Lake. Same face and he’s such a wuss. LOL

Haven’t seen him in a while. He’s probably under the bed. Once the racket stops outside, I’ll find him and console him.

We haven’t heard as many in-town fireworks this year as we usually do, because the cops has put it out that they would definitely be giving tickets for offenders. Not allowed in town, ya know..

They had the “official” show yesterday, which I thought was kind of wierd. Now there’s nothing really going on tomorrow. Not that we’d go. LOL! Too hot. It was 104 today and the promise of more of the same tomorrow. Ugh! It’s still 91...at nearly 11pm. I really dislike summer! :P

What a bunch of party poopers the cops are! It’s the 4th of July! Hello!

Technically, it’s illegal to shoot them off here but the cops won’t bust people for a week or two before the 4th. We have couple of days afterwards to blow up anything we have and THEN it’s ticket time.

The “official” shows around here were yesterday too. The town we went to just shoots off fireworks but the town to our north had an afternoon and evening shindig with fireworks as the finale. It would have been nice to go to that but it was too hot here. Not quite as hot as your area but hot enough to keep us home.

Whew! 91 degrees this time of night isn’t good! It’s 75 here but the humidity from this afternoon’s rain makes it really soupy outside. Ugh!

WOOHOO!!! Did the soy beans get enough to drink to sustain them for a while?

Mom slept most of the day. She called me right at posting times. “Did you hear that thump?” Nothing is out there. “A motorcycle crashed.” Nothing is there.

YIKES!! Fireworks CLOSE! They are illegal.

It’s been back and forth for the last few hours...people in the house, and her knees have locked up twice.

Hi :) hope you don’t mind me sharing, in 4th grade my class recited parts from “I am the American Flag” and then did marching designs to patriotic music.

I still sorta remember my part - sorry for any errors it’s been many decades:

“I am the American Flag, and I have earned the right to speak. The rite paid for my freedom of speech is a price few remember or comprehend.

Most forget, but I still see those bright beautiful young men who died for me at Pork Chop Hill, Verdun, Normandy, Iwo jima, Pearl Harbor, The Coral Sea, Okinawa, Corregidor, and the Asian Jungle half a world away. When they died for me, I wrapped them in my love and draped my honor over their caskets in tropics deserts and seas.

Those who died for my rite to speak in freedom are buried in the flanders field of France, the Punch bowl in Hawaii, the outskirts of Manila, the Philipines and many other places under the sun. I fly proudly over their graves, at all of these places, praying that wars might end forever.

Never forgetting them, I rise every morning to watch hour after hour over the graves of our finest men who’s years were short but who’s service was longer than we could ever measure.”

Yeah...party poopers! LOL! I guess they got tired of all the complaints they’ve gotten. Plus, though we’ve had some rain, we’re still in a quasi-drought situation and they don’t want any random fires to have to deal with.

Ours was called the Firecracker Fandango and there was all kinds of stuff going on. They had the main street downtown closed to traffic.

Ahhhh...just heard someone trying to see if the cops meant what they said. LOL!

They’ll be ok for a little while but not long if we don’t get more rain in this area this week. They need more than the .7 an inch we got today. But it was better than no rain at all. Their droopy leaves are standing out again.

Well, at least you had some quiet time today. Were you able to get a few things on your list taken care of?

Just too bad she had to see and hear things again when she woke up.

LOL! Being illegal doesn’t mean everyone’s going to pass on fireworks. It adds to the thrill when you aren’t supposed to shoot them off. Shoot and run away!

With it being so dry, they have a point about not wanting fires started. There have been a few years we weren’t allowed to shoot them for the same reason. It was close this year but there’s been just enough rain to keep things green enough.

I don’t know if they had a name for their shindig. It was held at a small park behind the high school and I guess they shot the fireworks from the football stadium. There were some local bands lined up to play and they always have several food and drink vendors.
If it hadn’t been so hot, we’d have gone.

It had cooled down a little by sunset but wasn’t too bad for the fireworks we went to watch. That’s what we were most interested in any way so it all worked out well.

It might be a no-no but there’s always someone who’s going to go for the gusto and shoot some fireworks. Can ya blame ‘em? LOL

Nah, I don’t blame them. I used to do the same thing. LOL! But some people go to bed early. Can you fathom that?? :)

I’ve done it too. LOL! I imagine many have and will always do it.

Hubby went out to the garage not long ago and said there were STILL fireworks going off around here. Anyone who has to get up early is gonna be grumpy.
