You may not have noticed but our sun has gone as blank as a cue ball. As in, its lost its spots. According to scientists, this unsettling phenomenon is a sign we are heading for a mini ice age. Meteorologist and renowned sun-watcher Paul Dorian raised the alarm in his latest report, which has sparked a mild panic about an impending Game of Thrones-style winter not seen since the 17th century. For the second time this month, the sun has gone completely blank, Dorian says. The blank sun is a sign that the next solar minimum is approaching and there will be an increasing number of spotless days over the next few years. At first, the blankness will stretch for just a few days at a time, then itll continue for weeks at a time, and finally it should last for months at a time when the sunspot cycle reaches its nadir. The next solar minimum phase is expected to take place around 2019 or 2020. According to NASA, the sun goes through a natural solar cycle approximately every 11 years. The cycle is marked by the increase and decrease of sunspots visible as dark blemishes on the suns surface, or photosphere. The greatest number of sunspots in any given solar cycle is designated as solar maximum. The lowest number is solar minimum. During Solar Max, huge sunspots and intense solar flares are a daily occurrence. Auroras appear in Florida. Radiation storms knock out satellites. Radio blackouts frustrate CB radio as well. The last such episode took place in the years around 2000-2001, the space agencys website explained. During solar minimum, the opposite occurs. Solar flares are almost non-existent while whole weeks go by without a single, tiny sunspot to break the monotony of the blank sun.

It will come back with a vengeance. Rev. 16:9
For once they realize the sun drives our weather. They are correct about the sun. The shifting of the poles though might be worse than the winter is coming.
Global warming is a hoax. This is not. We haven’t had any real warming for years. This is, of course cyclical. It’s not a doomsday scenario, it’s just a cycle of the sun. The sun does what it does. We have to adapt. The global warming idiots better be thinking about preparing for harsher winters, cooler summers and shorter growing seasons for a couple of years. More coal and more gas drilling.
Will these people EVER shut up?
Too hot. Too cold. Just right... not in our lifetime.
Enough already... decades ago!
Sounds like a mini ice age, pole shift and Yellowstone eruption convergence.
I’m stocking up on jerky and whiskey.
The west has had an unusually warm June
Every degree of cooling from hte loss of sun spots will cause mass starvation on millions of acres of land now providing only subsistence farming.
Unlike worry about looking one’s boat dock in Kennebunct Port, this is a real result from a real cyclical event.
Don’t tell Al Gore that the sun effects Earth’s climate. He still thinks the Earth’s interior is millions of degrees. Leave a man his illusions, can’t you??
Careful! There is talk of prosecuting us “deniers” /sarc
Bring it on! :-))
Climate change
Damn you SUV’s and overbreeding humans, look what you’ve done
No doubt there will be enough workers surviving to mine and refine fossil fuels to preserve the lifestyles of the elites
Serious cooling could be seriously devastating to food production.
I think most of us realize we can’t control the weather to suit the prog politicians who see it as a chance to rip off the taxpayers. The climate is always changing—who knew?
One final note: the sun will eventually die. The question is, when?
“Why the sun goes blank” made me think of the song by one of my all time favorite groups The Corrs (not the Coors, that’s a beer).
Totally unrelated to this thread, but I thought you might enjoy.

Oh, for crying out loud. Amateur radio operators have known about the 11-year solar cycle for decades. The lack of sun spots lessens the effectiveness of the radio equipment in terms of long distance communications. We are almost at the depth of the cycle right now. It must be a slow news day.
Across the Pacific Ocean to the West of yours too — evidently called an el Niño year for a very warm April, May and early parts of June (in Southern Hemisphere) — waiting for la Niña to not be outdone.
...something about getting those on public assistance, that are able, to shovel snow? Heh, shovel, use a broom, it's like frost on the windshield back east.
(they haven't cut any grass around here, but the shelters sure have a lot of people volunteering to make homeless shelters more amenable).
I only get klds (?) trying to sell me magazine subscriptions.
Yup sounds like we may want that CO2 to keep us warm. LOL
After the month of June, with daily hights ranging from 109 to 118, I for one could use a little cooling here in the desert.
