‘Let’s not be hasty’: Despite EU push, UK politicians say no need for quick Brexit

British politicians, including strong advocates of the Leave campaign, say there’s no rush in starting the process to exit the European Union.

The people had their say Thursday, voting 52 percent to 48 per cent in favor of parting ways with the EU, giving the British government the green light to begin ‘divorce’ proceedings.

However, there is a sense of reluctance on the part of many, including Brexit-backer Boris Johnson, even to consider invoking Article 50 for some time yet.

Johnson, who was vocal on what he called the “anti-democratic absurdities of the EU” during the campaign, says there’s no rush in fulfilling the will of the people.

Boris Johnson @BorisJohnson

Don't wake up to the nightmare of staying in the EU on June 24th. Believe in Britain and vote Leave:

"In voting to leave the EU it’s vital to stress that there is now no need for haste,” the former mayor of London said.

“And as the prime minister has just said, nothing will change over the short term except that work will have to begin on how to give effect to the will of the people and to extricate this country from the supranational system.”

British politicians now giving themselves two years to collect themselves, before they actually invoke Article 50, which BEGINS the negotiations

In other words the Globalist are stalling for time to stop this.  I expect the Empire to strike back.  Everything bad will be blamed on the brexit and anything good is because of the E.U.

I would disagree. They are an absolute anchor upon the EU now, and every month that goes by without any action to remove them....makes the EU weaker. More referendums will occur with other members of the EU. It may take a year, maybe two years.....but they will destroy the EU by this method.

We may not need to initiate article 50 of the Lisbon treaty.

We can ask the EU to write a new article; one that defines associate membership (on agreed terms) and that moves the UK into that status. This will include such items as free trade and reconfirming passport status on financial operations.

Being the EU's largest internal customer gives us the clout to negotiate a large change like this.

The UK is capable of making their own rules and treaties and agreements.

Thatcher said the EU was a mistake.

That's what I was thinking. So what if the people vote, elected representatives rulers today don't seem to think they are bound by pesky thinks like the will of the people, court decisions, etc. Maybe they need an objective lesson in reality, a harsh one.

the two of you have stated well both sides of the issue

the simple truth is that no one actually knows what is going to transpire. no one knows how it will work out.

there are those likening the Boris Johnson/ Donald Trump alliance to the Thatcher/Reagan alliance. That is, such a force will have tremendous power to shape not only Euro, but global events.

folks here talk about needing popcorn. the events over the atlantic are going to be quite a show

I honestly don’t think they know what they are going to do.
Both major parties there are in complete disarray.

Right, but other countries voting to leave may accelerate the inevitability of this process. The cows are out of the barn now.

If the Conservative Party dawdles in its duty to conclude the Brexit quickly, then, IMHO, UKIP will win enough votes to form a government that will cut energy taxes, void goofy “regulations” and reduce British contributions that pay for the extravagant lifestyles of the EU’s self-serving grandees...

Thereby SAVING Britain!
