Antivaccine activists gleefully attack and dox a 12-year-old boy who made a pro-vaccine video

If there’s one thing I’ve learned about the antivaccine movement, it’s that its members dislike being criticized. Oh, hell, let’s be honest. The really, really hate criticism and react very, very badly to it. Whereas you or I or other skeptics might react to criticism by trying to address it using facts, science, and reason, the first reaction of many antivaccine loons is to attack, attack, attack.

There is no reason to distrust vaccine makers. Do you really think they are out to harm children?

Yes. They are in business to make money. I look at them with the same amount of skepticism as any other business trying to sell me something and would be remiss in my duty if I just accepted their "authority" or anyone else's "authority" with a healthy amount of skepticism and weighing risks/benefits. I don't care what "science" it's based on. Follow the money.

You reject science with mis-applications of “fallacies.”

Gotcha.

Thanks!

But as I get older, everyone else should slow down with me, you know. ;-)

You can’t split up the MMR or the DPT combos in the United States. You can in France and Switzerrland that I know of. Why?? I don’t think there is an answer that favors children’s health. The “excuse” is so that the child doesn’t need more stabs.

I see a reason for whooping cough, measles, not much else, maybe mumps for boys.

Chicken pox vaccine is BS. My two sons had it, caught it in the same wave. The unvaxed son had pox EVERYWHERE but only felt sick for a day or so. I knew how to deal with the pox to stop itch. My other son, vaccinated, had only a few pox on his trunk, but was feverish and sick in bed for a week. He was 8 and the other one was 3. Kids should be exposed to pox in elementary age and get it over with for pretty much lifelong immunity. They know the immunity is only partial and very short term so they recommend boosters every few years for life. What 25 year old would remember to get a booster? And c pox is horribly dangerous as an adult. Bad vaccine.

Sorry, that makes no sense.

I think DDT was not eliminated until the 70’s. Polio was well gone by then.

Personally, with the increase of mosquito born illness...I say bring on the DDT.

So you are saying that you are rebelling against a law...not the safety or not safety of vacs?

Got it! I rebelled against wearing a seat belt for many years.

Against that, though, is the cosmetic implications of pox to darker skinned people. One of my “black redneck” buddies got the chicken pox, and thereafter has had to use make-up on his face. The pox area does not come back dark, is the problem. What on a white person might look like freckle marks is major unsightliness on a black face. It could be worth remembering to keep up with vaccines, even if they had no other virtue, to avoid getting pox on the face.

Nothing to track. The anti vaccine stuff originated w/an Andrew Wakefield study. All of his stuff and similar were completely debunked.

All good science is reproducible, therefore a “nothing to track” comment sounds anti-science.

Keep in mind that the spike in whooping cough, TB, measles, Enterovirus68, etc. perfectly coincide with His Arrogance’s ignoring the immigration rules.

These are not fallacies just because you believe they are. Look at the facts and see for yourself. All the nonsense peddled by anti-vax people are demonstrably false. Check out the links in the story and you will see that all of their notions have been proven to be bogus, but no matter how much evidence there is to the contrary, anti-vax devotees refuse to face the facts.

Kinda like global warming? The science is settled?

I followed this thread with much interest. Truthfully, when I saw the topic posted...I was like...Oh Noes!!

I always find both sides of the argument interesting.

Truthfully...if I had children...they would be vaccinated. Especially against small pox, polio. I am divided about measles, mumps and chicken pox. We all had those diseases as kids. But with the decrease in the ability that people have to combat disease and infection, I would consider it strongly.

Also important, not only are people coming to this country that aren’t vaccinated....we travel much more to foreign countries.

If I had kids..I would vaccinate. I don’t like the thought of “multiple vaccine” combinations. I don’t even do that to my pets. But if one is willing to pay it can be done.

If a person doesn’t want to vaccinate...rock on. The health of your child maybe at stake.

Stated differently...

You sound more annoyed about a “rule” that makes you do something you don’t want to do.

Don’t vaccinate your kids...not my problem.
