It is the EU that imposed the immigration of Muslim refugee into the UK. Muslims have taken over 12 cities around London, where non-Muslims are menaced for not adhering to Islamic law. Communities have been bombarded by Muslim extremists with posters, which read: “You are entering a Sharia-controlled zone – Islamic rules enforced.” Muslims attacked an American who was drinking on the street, grabbing the bottle out of his hands and smashing him in the eye with it, causing permanent injury. In August 2013, according to the Daily Mail, “two brothers-in-law who went on a sponsored walk wearing comedy manikins had to be rescued up by police - after they were pelted with stones and eggs by residents who told them ‘this is a Muslim area’ and demanded they leave.” All of this makes the native British people worried and concerned.
At least Sarah Palin is not ignorant and complacent about the reality of what is going on in the UK.

It is about feeling seasonal affective disorder (SAD), a kind of depression that people get in the winter when days are short. The "slant of light" is the direction that the light shines on winter afternoons, just before the sun slips below the horizon on an all-too-short winter day.
I don't know if you'll find that interpretation in a discussion of poetry, but I am certain that anyone afflicted by SAD would recognize what Dickinson was writing about.
