Americans Continue to Buy Guns in Record Numbers

NICS Background Checs 2015 to May 2016

In 2016, Americans continue to break records for gun sales.  While the National Instant Check System (NICS) does not track gun sales directly, the numbers are highly correlated. The numbers of NICS checks, and the increase in private firearms, have skyrocketed during the Obama administration.

The total for 2016 through the end of May is 11,698,006 instant checks. That is more than the entire year of 2007, which held the record up to that year. Thus, during the Obama years, the number of private firearm sales has doubled.  In 2015, the highest year on record, the total number of checks was 23,141,970.  That is just a hair short of double the number done in 2007.  2016 is shaping up to break the 2015 record by millions of instant checks.  In just the first five months of instant checks, the cumulative instant checks are more than half the total for all of the record breaking year of 2015.

May, 2016, has the most instant checks of all the months of May on record.  That makes 13 months in a row that have broken records for all previous years.  If the trend continues, 2016 will reach the record numbers of 2015 by the end of October, with the busy months of November and December still ahead.

It is possible, even likely, that 2016 will reach over 28 million instant checks.  The correlation between instant checks and increases of the private firearm stock is very close to .6 firearms for each instant check.  That is because every used firearm sold through a dealer requires an instant check.  Those do not add firearms to the private stock; they already have been counted.

I fully expect AR’s will banned by this time next year.”

Only if Hillary is elected. If the Donald is President, don’t think it will happen.

I work p/t at a med-lg gun store, on the loading dock and the computer systems, and we’re unloading almost as many ARs, SCARs, pistols and pallets of ammo as we did after Sandy Hook, when sales exploded. And demand is causing pre-booking of units, with healthy deposits. Accessories - lasers, lights, scopes, stocks, mags special armorer work - has gone thru the roof; owners hired 2 jr gunsmiths to help out the sr armorer. Life is good, for the foreseeable future.

Don Davis, the second greatest gun salesman in US history, would approve.

I sometimes wonder... The 'rats so regularly take advantage of these tragedies to push for more ineffective gun control. It's like clockwork. And every time sales of firearms and ammunition leap...

Is anyone else starting to wonder if secretly these 'rat birds have stock in firearms and ammunition companies? "Oh, another tragedy, let's go make some dumb-*** push for something we know we'll never get and won't work even if we get it...but it'll make me another couple hundred K on my stocks..."

The Mini-30 is a decent rifle. I like the various AR platforms in .300 AAC better, and should get one. It is a cartridge/rifle designed to work well with suppressors and with the power of a 7.62x39 cartridge. Ammo is a bit pricey, though. 7.62x39 for the Mini-30 should be easier to get.

Prices started to come down. Now they will be going back up.

Try one. If you like it, then get it.

The Taurus copies of the Berreta 92 have good reputations. I had one for a while. It was very accurate and reliable.

If you found a good deal on one, you might like it.

I like Glocks. A model 17 is my everyday carry gun.

My gun buying is limited only by my budget. I haven’t bought a gun for a month.

I might buy a Beretta. My husband had one and he taught me to shoot with one. I liked it. I practiced on a target of binLaden's face. :o) I am female and, though I am tall I have small hands (and feet), so the Beretta might suit me better.

GAAH!

Don't you know a woman's place is in the skeet range? ;o)

...... anyone’s thoughts on the Ruger Mini30?

Well, we could start with "why?"

It's not a domestic round and much of the available ammunition is kinda crappy.

Parts from all of the AR-15 suppliers are going to dry up very quickly.

They have been running all out for years. They had a little rest. Now they will be running all out again, at least until the end of the year.

Here in California they have a law that says you have to buy a gun every 30 days. I’m going broke. ;o)

Got a new 12 ga. last week. I’m loving it. My wife is so afraid of Obonzo and the DemoNazis that she now encourages me to buy new firearms but I have to take her to the range to teach her how to shoot it as part of the deal. She is definitely NOT one of Clintoon’s Vagina Ideologues.

Bad idea at the current time. There are ZERO ammunition plants in the US set up for the 7.62x39 AK round it uses. Its entire ammunition supply is dependent on imports, which can be cut off with executive orders. Stroke of the pen, you have a club. Russian supplies have already been cut off by EO. Prices for the ammo have gone up accordingly.

I know of at least one American mfr., Hornady, that makes 7.62X39. Steel cases like the Rooskies and a better product than Wolf or Tula.
Of course you pay more too.

Id say liberals account for a substantial part of those record background checks. Thats right, liberals buy guns too and use them. They have no problem with guns. Their problem is that you can have them too. Something to keep in mind as you ponder the article.
