The organization is making lobbying for gun control a top priority.
The AMA, the country's largest doctor group, also vowed to lobby Congress to overturn a decades-old ban on gun violence research by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
"With approximately 30,000 men, women and children dying each year at the barrel of a gun in elementary schools, movie theaters, workplaces, houses of worship and on live television, the United States faces a public health crisis of gun violence," AMA president Dr. Steven Stack said in a statement.
"Even as America faces a crisis unrivaled in any other developed country, the Congress prohibits the [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] from conducting the very research that would help us understand the problems associated with gun violence and determine how to reduce the high rate of firearm-related deaths and injuries," he added.

"Hey! If we can somehow prove that Sarah Palin makes men buy guns, I can get myself a fishing boat!" "Right on it, professor!!"
Gee, that many just at those places alone? /sarc.
The ama is the largest liberal medically related lobbying group It is ignored by most physicians I know.
These people have a mental disorder:Hoplophobia.
It’s estimated medical malpractice kills between 45,000 and 98,000 people a year in the United States. Bugger off, AMA.
Prelude to declaration of a national medical ‘emergency’?

New directive from the national medical commissar.
Turn in your weapons to your doctor.
(My doc would give them back and want to go shooting with me)
Bingo, we have a winner. Maybe they ought to do extensive self review of how to reduce the hundreds of thousands of patients murdered by their mistakes ... maybe start taking medical licenses, restricting practices, background checks for malpractice, background checks for prescription malpractice, etc.
/BINGO
Even the NeverTrump shills at the Compost get it:
from May — Researchers: Medical errors now third leading cause of death in United States (after heart disease and cancer)

Like I said earlier, there are more “medical misadventure” deaths per year than gun deaths. I thought the number I saw was 200,000 or something. I’m sure someone has the graph/chart out there to show I’m right or wrong. Physicians, heal thyself. And a subtle reminder. Not all M.D.’s finished at the top of the class. Gotta go vote now. Just say NO to joe heck. Rino departus.
Hammers and clubs kill more people every year than guns.
With 225,000 deaths per year attributed to drug and medical errors the AMA needs to pull its collective head out of its ass and clean up their own act.
Ah yes. The croakers trying to worm their way into everything again.
They’ve been calling it that since at least the early 90s. Age hasn’t lent it any more truth.
Actually, there is a purported CDC graph that supports the more guns less crime argument.
Barry’s administration buried it.
Guns aren’t violent. They are inanimate objects. The brainstems at the AMA represent a leftist minority of physicians, just as those at the ABA represent a leftist minority of attorneys. The AMA should work on something that would really benefit public health, such as getting more teaching hospitals built. Unfortunately, in my opinion, they restrict med school accreditation in order to create an artificial shortage and maximize physician profit. Medicine is one area where we should go full speed ahead with H-1B visas until the artificial shortage is rectified. You may doubt me, but go to your local hospital and look around the physician parking lot. They’re doing just fine.
Maybe they should be doing something about medical mistakes that kill way more people than firearms.
Oh please! Enough already! No one that can claim to be able to rub two brain cells together believes anything that any government agency says about guns.
