Obama Warns of Underwater Manhattan Without Climate Change Action

1:02 PM, Jun 09, 2016 | By Chris Deaton

President Obama warned of a submerged Manhattan without efforts to combat climate change during a fundraiser in New York City Wednesday night.

"[T]he majority of people believe in things like science -- and scientists," an official transcript of his remarks reads. "And so when scientists tell us that the planet is getting warmer and we need to do something about it, the majority of people think that's a good idea, let's do something about that, because we don't want Manhattan to be underwater."

Multiple organizations have sounded the alarm in recent years that rising sea levels will affect coastal cities worldwide. Based on U.S. Geological Survey and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration data, The New York Times estimated that a five-foot increase, listed as "probable" in 100 to 300 years, would cause 7 percent of New York City to be flooded. The East River "starts to eat away at La Guardia Airport" at that point, the Times's map predicts.

I am trying to see the downside of this, even if it were possible outside of a Lesbian Science Fiction novel.

On the slim chance it happens, I really don’t see a down side.

Here's one: those people now concentrated in Manhattan would move inland and pollute the rest of the country.

But, I expect that it is going to happen. It's just a matter of time, as sea levels were 50-100 meters higher for most of the past 120 million years:

NOTE: Y-axis is inverted. Higher sea levels are lower on the graph!

The trend since 1850 has been 2.77 mm/year. At that rate, it would have risen about 1 meter in the past 300+ years since 1660. But, look what has happened to Manhattan in that time:

Humanity has been able to stay ahead of that rise, and actually expanded Manhattan.

Any so-called ‘climate change action’, a.k.a. ‘fusterbuck’(sp), would take longer than the current hurricane season, to get all parties to commit to their first meeting.

Meanwhile, as has been demostrated by Nature already, Manhattan, and the Tri-State Metropolitan Area, have been inundated with the current levels of New York Harbor, Long Island Sound, and the Great South Bay.

Just for all the farl-de-rahl that has come out of that area, both politically and socially, I sit here in my Louisiana swamp rocker, and wait for any of the talking heads to freak out, when that awaited CAT-IV comes to Battery Park!

0demagogue doesn't know squat about anything...

Claim That Sea Level Is Rising Is a Total Fraud

Sea levels began to rise 18k years ago at the end of the last glacial period. They have risen about 135 meters since then which is an average of 7.5 millimeters per year. That is an average of 750 mm per century (29.5 inches) which is far more than the average over the last century.

From 1880 to 2000 sea level rose about 20 cm or just under 8 inches. Far less than the nearly 30 inches per century average over the last 18,000 years.

Obama could care less about New Yorkers or Americans. The greatest threat to Manhattan has been illegal immigrants over staying their visas. A couple of them attacked the Island and killed over 3,000 New Yorkers and caused billions in damage. Obama is now importing more of them by the thousands. They represent a real danger not a theoritical danger.

“[T]he majority of people believe in things like science — and scientists”

Look, I believe in this science stuff. Especially when science says what I think.

And this science stuff it comes from...uh...shut up, Valerie, don’t tell me...oh , yeah, Scientists!

And I spent $22,000,000,000 looking for scientists that said what I think is true, and I found lots of them. Sometimes a scientist actually asked to see the money, usually in a suitcase of small denominations, but it’s all very scientific, and scientists knew what they were doing.

And I guess some science don’t work properly unless I got people to believe in the science. And we have to believe in science, what are we, atheists?

So now I had to steal more money to pay community activists to make people I previously stole money from, believe in the science I paid the scientists for (exasperated sigh).

This was all getting very expensive. One day I figured out how to save money, by letting all the criminals out of prison. They voted democrat, no problem, believed in global warming, sure thing! Without expensive government propaganda, so they cost less than our unbelieving citizens. And we put the deniers in prison instead, and it didn’t matter any more what they believed.

And that, children, is how Granpa Barack saved the American economy and the whole world.

No more stories, kids, off to school, you have final exams on goat husbandry and infidel beheading, so scat!

*AWWW...I don wanna go t’ skool...I’m tired if chopping heads...snif*

“The New York Times estimated that a five-foot increase, listed as “probable” in 100 to 300 years,”

This is a joke? Right? Never put the NYSlimes and the truth anywhere near each other! I mean it would mean that the then-current WPOS Sultzberger would need to alter his elevator shoes. Then again, in 100 to 300 years the NYSlimes HQ would have moved to Mexico City because Carlos Slim’s progeny would have long since called their note on the Slimes.

Obama’s completely full of it: De Blasio has already put the wheels in motion to raise a gazillion dollars to build, now get this, a giant WALL, around NY City to save it from global warming.

The Northern Hemisphere is still rebounding from the last glacial period, so the land is rising.

Gotta Tidal Wave weapon, Ovomit?

An underwater nuclear detonation off the east coast could conceivably cause a tsunami.

"Buildings in Manhattan are replaced with shocking frequency.

True, and they are so airtight that they could survive underwater.

And if a 20-story building loses a floor, there will be 19 floors left to live in, work in and rent out come 2050 or 2060 or whenever."

Shades of Italy. There will be no more taxis, just gondolas. It'll also get rid of alphabet city :)

on a side note, I was on the phone yesterday with someone in NYC. Conversation had to be cut short because of the noise coming from NYC. Helicopters were flying above and cars were honking non stop. Turns out our dear leader was speechifying two blocks away. People were not happy. Oh, and dear leader speaking about climate change on one of the coldest days of this month. too funny.
