For someone who is in love and recently married, a wedge of very odd pain is lodged in Mpho Tutu van Furths heart.
It is caused by the South African Anglican churchs refusal to allow the daughter of one of the worlds best known Christian leaders to continue to work as a priest after she married the person with whom she has pledged to share the rest of her life: a woman.
It was hard for me to give up my [priests] licence, it felt incredibly sad, Tutu van Furth whose father, Desmond Tutu, won the Nobel peace prize in 1984 for the struggle against apartheid told the Guardian.
My father campaigned for womens ordination, and so every time I stand at the altar I know that this is part of his legacy. And it is painful, a very odd pain, to step down, to step back from exercising my priestly ministry.
The civil wedding of Mpho Tutu and Marceline van Furth took place in the Netherlands in December and was followed by a celebration at a vineyard in Franschhoek, near Cape Town, last month.
One bride was a black South African priest, the other a white Dutch atheist academic.

WOMEN CAN’T MARRY WOMEN!!!
MEN CAN’T MARRY MEN!!!
LOOK UP THE ORIGINS OF THE WORD MATRIMONY!!!!
geesh!!!
So here we go. Another puff piece in the media about homosexual marriage. This one is supposed to melt our hearts because she is a member of the clergy, and her mean old church won’t let her marry another woman and still be a clergy person.
Love how they manipulate us in the media.
She made her choice. Church made their choice. What is the problem?
We all make choices in life. She made her choice. To her, the public expression of her homosexuality is more important than being a minister in her church. She made her choice.
Desmond Tutu has championed LGBT rights and same-sex marriage. I would not worship a God who is homophobic and that is how deeply I feel about this, he said at the 2013 launch of the Free and Equal campaign in Cape Town. I am as passionate about this campaign as I ever was about apartheid. For me, it is at the same level.Well then, Tutu worships Satan.
Another semi-celebrity carpet muncher gets her 15 minutes of infamy.
I fully agree. She made her choice as to how to live her life. Her church has rules and doctrines which exclude homosexuality. She apparently can’t live with that situation, so she had to run to the media to tell her story.
“LOOK UP THE ORIGINS OF THE WORD MATRIMONY!!!!”
It’s from a Latin word, and the root is the word for “mother”.
exactly!!
Tutu worshipped the communist ANC and his ace-boon-coon* Nelson Mandala *(what black guys where I worked called their BFF)
A priest and an atheist? ...not buying the story here, something else is afoot.
I wonder if all of this queerism going around is being caused by global warming or it’s just “the next big thing.”
She appears to have “married” in search of a white mother figure.
How evil Christianity is!
Men can marry men in any other religion, like Islam - right?
The white person is a woman? Are you sure?
At least she’s reinforcing the stereotype that they want our white women.
Look at the picture. That isn't a 'mother figure'.
Depends on one’s perspective, I guess.
