Former attorney general: Trump right to question judges fairness
By Mark Hensch
Former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales says Donald Trump is right to challenge the fairness a judge overseeing lawsuits against him.
An independent judiciary is extremely important. But that value is not the only one in play here, Gonzales wrote in a Saturday op-ed for The Washington Post.
"Equally important, if not more important from my perspective as a former judge and U.S. attorney general, is a litigants right to a fair trial, he continued.
The protection of that right is a primary reason why our Constitution provides for an independent judiciary. If judges and the trials over which they preside are not perceived as impartial, the public will quickly lose interest in the rule of law upon which our nation is based. Trump on Thursday said U.S. District Judge Gonzalo Curiels Hispanic ethnicity is an absolute conflict in three civil fraud lawsuits against the billionaire.
He said Curiels Mexican heritage makes him partial because of Trumps calls for a wall along Americas southern border with Mexico.

And yet there is still method in his madness.
Everybody and their cat and dog will know about the Trump Wall when this is through, and it will be the screaming of the screaming liberals that will have propelled him to such high visibility. He’s living rent-free in their news.
The term La Raza is more loaded. What if it was Chosen People Bar Association? That’s a better analogy.
I thought it was great when Trump kept saying over and over to Wolf, ‘I’m building a wall on the Mexico border.’
At any rate, can someone check these folks out for a statement about the National Council of La Raza — directly, not just because some news outlet claimed so. Those are the political radioactive factor here.
Let Jim run his own forum. Personally, I think knowing the enemy is important. Makes me think of reasonable ways to refute them.
La Raza = Pro Mexican hate group + Judge member of La Raza = means his bias tips against Trump
Judge should recuse himself.
At any rate, can someone check these folks out for a statement about the National Council of La Raza — directly, not just because some news outlet claimed so. Those are the political radioactive factor here.
(Ray, you said you found a link. Here’s a situation where it matters whether there was one documented or not.)
“I belong to the Orange County Jewish Bar Association. Doesn’t mean I’m bigoted against Christians.”
But your group isn’t based on a belief in the superiority of your race and the desire for it to dominate all others. Theirs is.
From article
...Gonzales said Curiel is a member of La Raza Lawyers of San Diego, which Trump aides say is affiliated with a national group vociferously opposing Trump, National Council of La Raza (NCLR).
........
.....Curiel has also appointed the Robbins Geller law firm to plaintiffs, he added, noting Geller is a donor to Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton.
We see plenty of the enemy on TV news in our face 24/7. We don’t need to see it here. Yes Jim runs FR just fine.
Two organizations, and the relationship is under discussion. Might be a radioactive one, might not be.
However the connotations of the term La Raza i.e. “The Race” are questionable.
wrong redneck
so report the oildude and keep on going
yes but Trump should have highlighted La Raza rather than the judge’s Mexican ancestry per se.... it is far more relevant and important the the judge is part of La Raza than the sole fact that his ancestry hails from Mexico....
The curious, curious, Curiel court.
Trump is not a nuance-meister.
He would have nothing against wise Latinos or Latinas. Only stupid ones that worship their race.
true, but one wouldn’t expect any Jewish Bar group to be bigoted.... La Raza, on the other hand, has a long-established track record of bigoted radicalism....
And the term means “The Race” in Spanish.
Which is actually a darker variation on Caucasian. Spanish Notsowhiteboys.
“By talking about it it deflates the issue down the road - there can be no October Surprises with Trump”
I think you are exactly right.
Trump didn’t unload on this asshat until he unsealed those manuals.
