Chick-fil-A is rolling out a new app that will let customers avoid waiting in line at the register.
The app, called Chick-fil-A One, will allow customers to order and pay for their food in advance, then pick it up at a counter designated for online orders.
That's big news for fans of Chick-fil-A, which is typically slammed with customers during regular meal times, making long lines inevitable.
The app will also allow users to customize and save their favorite orders.
Michael Lage, a veteran of Facebook and Google who helped develop the app, says it will change how customers, particularly parents with young children, experience and interact with Chick-fil-A.
"I have a 2-year-old daughter, and I can't imagine interacting with Chick-fil-A without the app anymore," he said, commenting on the difficulty of managing toddlers while waiting in line.
To celebrate the launch of the app, Chick-fil-A is giving away free chicken sandwiches to everyone who downloads it between June 1 and June 11.
Customers will get their choice of a free original, spicy, or grilled chicken sandwich when they sign up.

Good start, now get rid of the damned kale and give me back my Cole Slaw!
I am proud to go to Chick Fil A after the libs tried to take them down. I get a little special zing to my step in my head when I see the long lines as I drive by one.
The drive thru lib dude with his free water got fired from his job for his stunt but never heard what happened with the girl who had to wait on him and kept her calm.
I was hoping they were bringing back coleslaw!!!
Speaking of which, why is Chick Fil A doing so well?? Aren’t we still supposed to try to drive them out of business over the homosexual marriage issue???
De Blasio in New York City recently called for boycott of Chick Fil A. Yet the Chick Fil A in Manhattan has lines spilling out the door. What’s up? Are liberals really really boycotting the chain still???? Why aren’t de Blasio’s constituents listening to their leader on who to boycott??
Yep I hear you. We raised our kids before cell phones and apps and the internet. How the heck did we do it?????
“Chick-Fil-A is the most difficult franchise to purchase.”
HQ has a very rigorous vetting process for new franchisees; that’s why the product, service quality, and cleanliness are uniformly at such a high standard across the chain.
“I love Chick-fil-A the company but not Chick-fil-A the chicken.”
Ditto here, but I love the milkshakes.
There is a reason for that. It keeps the ones that are open solvent.
Subway is the opposite of this. I have seen Subway’s across the street from each other.
“Chick-Fil-A is already known for quality anyway.”
And HQ wants to keep it that way, which is why the vetting process is so rigorous.
LMAO.
I'll hold the little monkey for ya.
I’m still in counseling since they quit selling the Asian chicken salad.
I stopped by on Memorial Day for a sandwich and a peach shake, busy but efficient with a smile.
Different potatoes?
The reason I rarely eat there is that when I do the line for the drive-through generally circles the building. Often times twice.
They’ve done this since I’ve been going to the one near me! At least a year!
I was hoping they’d replace the waffle fries with Bojangles fries...
“People want the Chick-Fil-A product; then Corporate needs to respond and streamline the process so more stores can be opened.”
Rapid expansion potentially results in loss of control over the store experience as consistency of the brand proposition is not maintained between the store locations. In addition the corporate office becomes overly focused on rolling out locations instead of expanding the customer base and market share in and around existing stores.
The best customer is always one you already have who must be continuously nurtured to sustain loyalty and grow purchases. By rolling out the loyalty program, delivered through the phone app, Chick fil A is reinforcing its commitment to sustaining the relationship with its existing customers as it expands geographically in a disciplined manner that preserves the quality of its product.
Another privately held retailer going through the same disciplined expansion process is Publix supermarkets. They also recognize that quality growth, focused on the customer experience, is superior to expansion for the sake of expansion.
Too many fast growing retailers have hit the wall when they expanded locations too quickly and failed to maintain the quality of the customer experience. Look at Chico’s and Coach, both now with damaged brand franchises and attempting to turn around with new management teams. Add the GAP to that list of once powerful retail brands who lost focus on the consumer while rolling out stores and new brand concepts.
One of the advantages of being privately held is not having to give in to pressure from the investment community, or other outside influencers, to expand more rapidly than management can manage effectively. Hence the ongoing success of Chick fil A and Publix while other in demand brands have faltered by focusing on rapid geographic expansion while operations at existing locations, and product innovation, suffered. Kudos to management for understanding the critical success factors and having the discipline to understand its own limitations.
My biggest complaint about Chick-fil-A is that the drive thru line can be excruciatingly slow. Even when there are just two cars waiting. I suppose it’s because they are cooking food to order but it makes me late to work too often!
Interesting. I know a programmer names Michael Lage, but he doesn’t have a kid. Or ever worked for Facebook or Google.
