My wife worked at a church that served food to the homeless.
Many times she watched as she was finishing serving what was on the line, the hungry homeless would get his food (or his entire family), then that “hungry” homeless guy (or his entire family) would see the fresh entree coming up was different than what they were served and was what they preferred so they would take the just served food, go down the line and then dump the food into the trash and then re-enter the line just so they can get the main entree they wanted.

That surprises me. I thought the Albuquerque police were all about killing and maiming and such. This would have been a perfect opportunity to do so carte blanche. (/sarc, sort of...)

Interesting. I hadn’t heard that they had actually throttled things back... That is good to hear. But they should have done something about the riots. Makes ABQ look really bad...
But the one incident I heard him talking about involved Belle Isle. It was a city park in the middle of the detroit river. Like all parks each had a stable for horses...and I believe Belle Isle was about 7 miles long. It also had a riding stable and zoo and lot of picnic tables. Swimming in the summer. Rioters were fighting on the road to the island and on the bridge. Nasty fighting, throwing people off the bridge into the river, knives etc. Word came down to clear the bridge. A bunch of rioters were not going to take over the island.. The mounted got their horses ready and lined up on the bridge of the island...I don't remember how many men their were but at least 8...the men sat their horses until the commander gave the order to clear the bridge...Those horses came down the bridge like a bat out of hell, the riders swinging their clubs..I think the bridge was 2 miles long..it got the attention of the rioters and they tried to run off the bridge, some chose to jump into the Detroit river. I wish I could have seen it but when dad talked about it, i sure could picture it..When they came to the end of the bridge onto Jefferson (the road) turned their horses around and the bridge was totally cleared...those that chose to jump into the water were on their own if they couldn't swim...it was their choice.. It wasn't the polices job to fish them out He was also a trainer when the mounted got a new horse and it had to pass by him before they were accepted..
Unlike the riots of today, the government just lets them loot and fight. The city government didn't treat criminals with kid gloves.
