I have an old recipe for Brunswick Stew, but you better be hungry ha ha:
About 70 Squirrels
2 large stewing chickens
6 gallons of water
2 1/2 lbs salt pork
2 1/2 gallons lima beans
3 1/2 gallons potatoes
4 gallons peeled tomatoes
1 gallon carrots
2 1/2 gallons corn
1 gallon shredded cabbage
3/4 cup pepper
1 3/4 cup salt
2 1/4 cup sugar
onions or red pepper
When I was going through my mother’s recipes I came to this and never figured out why so much! She never made it for us. Just a family recipe handed down I guess.
Oh boy! Those old pressure cookers could be dangerous. My mother and grandmother had one blow up while canning one year. I wasn’t there but they were so scared neither one of them ever used a pressure cooker again.
Thank you very much. I have been quite intimidated by “pressure” cookers from childhood on. LOL!! They were quite respected “back then”, horror stories, like some beast invading your mom’s kitchen. HA!
