Papers published recently by the Dutch Euthanasia Commission reportedly revealed that a woman in her twenties was allowed to go ahead with assisted suicide based on psychiatrists' decision that her mental health condition was "insufferable," and it was therefore illegal to deny her life-ending drugs.
The woman, who has not been identified, was sexually abused between the ages of 5 and 15, according to Britain's Independent.
Multiple reports cited the documents published by the Commission as stating the post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) the woman suffered due to the abuse was "incurable," enabling the approval under Dutch law of her request for euthanasia.
The Telegraph reports that the young woman was not an isolated case, and in fact, the rate of approved assisted suicides in the Netherlands for patients suffering from mental disorders has increased dramatically since the procedure was first made legal.
In 2010, only two people were granted euthanasia due to "insufferable" mental conditions, while The Telegraph said that number rose to 56 in 2015, according to the documents released by the Commission.
In remarks likely to cause even greater concern for foes of assisted suicide in Europe, one of the psychiatrists who grants approval for the procedure based on mental illness at the Netherlands euthanasia clinic told The Telegraph she believes doctors are still "too hesitant" to give the nod in such cases.
The psychiatrist, Paulan Starcke, was due to give a speech -- entitled "Condemned to live with unbearable psychiatric suffering, or allowed to die?" - on Thursday at a conference on euthanasia in Amsterdam.
Euthanasia was legalized in the Netherlands in 2002, and the procedure has seen a significant rise in the country since then, with people from across the world traveling to its End-of-Life clinic.

She needs to seek God.
Not death.
Everything is upside down. That poor woman had the rest of her life ahead of her.
Chilling.
This was the worst story I’ve read in a long time, worse than all the ISIS atrocity stories for me. Here’s a young, perfectly healthy woman they couldn’t wait to kill, not because she had some incurable agonizing disease—but because a monster abused her.
Paradoxically, horrible stories like this restore my faith because no earthly system could possibly deliver the justice required here.
Then how do they justify “illegally” denying her a “life-ending” gun?
What happened to her abuser?
These people are sick. Satan is alive and well here on earth.
Yes
It’s PTSD. You don’t need to have been in a real war zone. Her’s was her upbringing. I think there should be more clinical trials with the drug ecstasy. Under medical supervision it could have helped her. She probably had illegal access to it anyway. Sounds like the government and the medical profession is taking the easy way out.
We are living in Orwellian Days now-—where Slavery is Freedom, Vice is Virtue, Up is Down and Boys are Girls. (Pure Marxist irReality is being forced on all Western Cultures when they “killed God” to make the State into god (satan)).
Our “Justice System” is actually a Vice System and only forces (unconstitutionally), arbitrary, irrational “laws” which defy Truth/Reality/Laws of Nature-—which all are antithetical to the Constitution and should be “null and void”. Too bad the Dutch doesn’t have our Constitution.
Although our Congress and SCOTUS and POTUS have thrown out that document-—it still is the Supreme Law of the Land and can be restored immediately with a courageous, moral leader.
An entirely healthy, physically fit woman killed because she suffers from PTSD? While there’s life, there’s hope! This woman desperately needs Christ, but I very much doubt anyone is helping her in that regard. It is possible to come back from the brink no matter how bad one’s situation is. This killing is NOT treatment.
How devastating.
There must have been some family, friends or even a doctor who could have and should have helped her see that she was a precious human being with good things in her future, despite the suffering and abuse she endured as a child. How tragic that she didn’t get the help she needed.
The cult of individualism.
What about her family ? What about her actions poisoning the well for other people who need and want help ?
I’ve always defended the right of people who are diagnosed with an incurable physical ailment that at least three doctors agree is such to plan a time to leave this world surrounded by family and friends with dignity while they have their mental faculties intact. But to extend this to mental ‘diseases’ is an outrage to every sane person on both sides of the death-with-dignity debate as well as opening a gigantic gateway to horror. Mental disorders rarely if ever kill a person as definitively as, say, Stage 4 cancer does. And their diagnosis is far more subject to individual interpretation.
To put it another way, kind people put down their pets when they’re in constant pain from multiple organ failure, not because they’re depressed. The latter can be helped, the former can’t. If the Dutch can’t distinguish this then they are fools beyond description.
We dare not kill savages that kill the innocent but we will allow the killing of babies and the mentally ill
I have it and have always dealt with it through my dogs.
*However*, I cannot honestly say that I would not feel *much* better, if I were allowed to pump my perv full of a suicide cocktail.
The wrong person died, here.
