Hillary: The Conservative Hope
Wall Street Journal ^ | 05/09/2016 | Bret Stephens

Posted on 05/11/2016 5:10:30 PM PDT by Cyberman

The best hope for what's left of a serious conservative movement in America is the election in November of a Democratic president, held in check by a Republican Congress. Conservatives can survive liberal administrations, especially those whose predictable failures lead to healthy restorations--think Carter, then Reagan. What isn't survivable is a Republican president who is part Know Nothing, part Smoot-Hawley and part John Birch. The stain of a Trump administration would cripple the conservative cause for a generation....

For conservatives, a Democratic victory in November means the loss of another election, with all the policy reversals that entails. That may be dispiriting, but elections will come again. A Trump presidency means losing the Republican Party. Conservatives need to accept that most conservative of wisdoms--sometimes, losing is winning, especially when it offers an education in the importance of political hygiene.

The Fool writing this dribble has no idea of the freedoms that await to be removed under Hillary.

By the time this Fool finds out, it will be too late.

...a Democratic president, held in check by a Republican Congress. Conservatives...

Congress does not have the self control to do that. They proved that as a fact. Dems might win Congress too. And there’s the making laws by executive order. The WSJ is a Murdoch tool. No more. No less.

Just saw Glen Beck on with Anderson Cooper and he says the conservatives have no home and mocked Mr Trump. He looked like he was ready for a padded room!!!

Brett Stevens and #NeverTrumpers think handing over the Supreme Court to the Left for a generation constitutes a “conservative” victory.

Yeah, sure. They can’t stand Trump but they feel comfortable with Hillary.

That says all I need to know about them. F*ck ‘em.

This line sounds like it is straight out of Pravda, NY Times or WashPost.

Only ‘saving grace’ may be that it is a ‘don’t throw me in that briar patch’ mind set.

I remember the ‘old Rush’ and his ‘don’t tell the enemy what they are doing wrong, they MAY change it.’

The W Post is so enthralled with Trump it is definitely a case of he is living in their collective mind rent free.

Remember that R ‘line’ about if we don’t nominate AND elect Romney , people will stay home and not vote.
Romney did such a fine job of beating the R’s and in the process alienating the base of the people he defeated.

If he would have run HALF the campaign against BO that he did against the R’s, he more than likely would have won.

Of course he did the same thing in the Senate race in MA before he became Gov.....

And they are thinking of forcing him upon us again

AND they have the unmitigated gall to ‘blame’ us for the demise of the R party....

Dream...

How well will Donald Trump do, with, successfully, creating political coattails? Will the next Congress (both, the House and Senate), really, become a conservative Congress, with a conservative majority and less of RINO Republicanism as well as less of Establishment Republicanism?

A Trump presidency means losing the Republican Party

*************************

It means the Cheap Labor Express loses control of the Republican Party.
The globalists/open borders/amnesty agenda people within the GOP will resist.

Stephens and his fellow ilk welcome a third Obama term.

And they’re p*ssed the base rejected more Uniparty policies.

I’d love to see Trump win just to beat the stuffing out of them.

What could be worse than another John Roberts? The SCOTUS is just as political as any other branch.

What could be worse than another John Roberts?

2, 3, or 4 new judges cut from the same mold as Kagan, Sotomeyer, and Ginsburg.

No - a GOP Congress will give Hillary everything she wants and then some.

Why bother with the farce? We might as well put Pelosi and Schumer back in charge.

Checks and balances sure as hell ain’t working in Washington.

The Left will get what it wants anyway.

Conservatism as represented by the GOP today, is dead and has been for a long time.

But Trumpism isn’t just a triumph of marketing or the excrescence of a personality cult. It is a regression to the conservatism of blood and soil, of ethnic polarization and bullying nationalism.

I'd have thought Bret would be all for that.

Correct.

One more liberal SC judge, and the 2A is gone, and mainstream Christianity will be labeled as “hate speech”.

Hope that is what the #NeverTrumpers are wanting because that sure as heck is what they will be getting.

I prefer a strong nation-state over a multicultural America.

That’s exactly why I intend to vote for Trump.

Count me as a bullying nationalist who doesn’t have to take crap from the rest of the world.

And Stephens - take your liberalism and shove it where the sun don’t shine.

Got news for this moron: there is no “conservative cause” if it doesn’t start with America first. George Washington knew that. John Adams knew that. Abraham Lincoln knew that. Teddy Roosevelt knew that, and Ronald Reagan darn sure knew that.

These so-called “conservatives” (and Rush is rapidly becoming one of these) have a higher loyalty to abstract ideas that actual, genuine American survival.
