Donald Trump says Puerto Rico has "far far too much debt," and the U.S. government shouldn't bail out the island.......

Puerto Rico is in crisis mode. It has run up $70 billion in debt, a staggering amount for an island of under 3.5 million people.....

"You have to cut the debt way down and get back to business," he said.

If the billionaire wants to house, feed, employ them, this is a far better option than sucking on the govt teet. Let him have his grand experiment and let him find out if the "refugees" want to work, build, create their own island home.

The truth should be pretty apparent quite quickly.

the entire island is on welfare and always has been. Terrible

I made the mistake of going there for vacation last year. Never again. San Juan was nothing but a crappy tourist trap for the cruiseline industry, and there were no beaches - the coast is a bunch of rock and the wind blows constantly.

puerto rico has $20,000 debt per citizen.

the US is running with a debt of $58,000 per citizen.

puerto rico is financially sound in comparison

...........with all due respect, I disagree. Having been involved tangentially in some restructures, the FIRST thing these attorneys and the creditors they represent want is AUDITED FINANCIALS. Puerto Rico, being good little socialist’s have not been able to come up with one exactly like our socialists (Democrats and RINO’s) have not produced a budget in 8 years. In Puerto Rico, no doubt why. Some people will be required to go to jail. The US could NEVER stand a full blown audit as half the government would go to jail.

After financials, Trump is right. The REASON they are upside down is half the population sucks off the other half. That has to stop and the political will, absent a real live shooting revolution, is just not there.

Remember when $45 billion was considered excessive debt for the entire US government? $70 billion for Puerto Rico now? Let them all just move to NYC.

In that case, why don’t we just sell Puerto Rico to Cuba and use the proceeds to pay off the debt?

Hey, the left is always telling us how great Cuba is. I’m sure the people of Puerto Rico would love to wake up one morning and find out they were now part of Castro’s paradise.

We bought Alaska from the Russians. Why can’t we sell Puerto Rico to the Cubans?
